Suad Al-Imam, a correspondent for Kuwait TV stationed in the Gaza Strip, miraculously survived an intense bombing by the Israeli occupation forces on Thursday. The attack targeted a house near Kuwait hospital in Rafah City, located in the southern part of the Strip.

In an interview with KUNA, Al-Imam recounted the harrowing experience, stating that she and her crew were standing in front of the hospital when the bombing occurred. Despite the violent nature of the attack, they managed to escape unscathed. Tragically, the bombing resulted in the deaths of six residents and left 25 others injured.

During the attack, fragments and debris rained down upon Al-Imam and her team as they were covering the arrival of medical aid provided by Kuwait. The journalist, who has been working for Kuwait TV and Radio for two decades, regularly covers field and news events in the Gaza Strip.

These incidents highlight the dangers faced by journalists in conflict zones. Since the beginning of the Israeli occupation forces’ aggression, over 60 journalists have lost their lives, with many others sustaining injuries. Additionally, numerous houses and offices belonging to reporters in all Palestinian governorates have been destroyed.

It is crucial to acknowledge the immense bravery of journalists like Suad Al-Imam, who risk their lives to report on events taking place in conflict-ridden areas. Their commitment to providing accurate and timely information is essential in ensuring that the world remains informed about the realities on the ground.

The targeting of journalists and media organizations is a grave violation of press freedom and the right to information. Such actions hinder the ability of journalists to carry out their work and deprive the public of crucial insights into ongoing conflicts. It is imperative that all parties involved in conflicts respect the safety and well-being of journalists, allowing them to fulfill their vital role in society.

In recent years, the international community has taken steps to protect journalists in conflict zones. Organizations such as Reporters Without Borders and the Committee to Protect Journalists advocate for the safety of journalists and work towards holding perpetrators accountable for their actions.

It is essential for governments and armed forces to uphold their responsibility to protect journalists and ensure their safety. This includes implementing measures to prevent attacks on media personnel, investigating and prosecuting those responsible for attacks, and providing support to journalists who have been targeted or affected by violence.

Journalists play a crucial role in providing unbiased and accurate reporting, even in the most challenging circumstances. Their work helps to shed light on conflicts, hold those accountable for their actions, and give a voice to the affected communities. It is our collective responsibility to support and protect journalists, enabling them to carry out their vital work without fear of harm.
