According to informed sources, the Commercial Control Department of Kuwait’s Ministry of Commerce has recently taken decisive action against the sale of counterfeit goods in the country. In a significant operation, the Ministry confiscated a large quantity of counterfeit products from a warehouse in Farwaniya, estimated to be worth around 120,000 dinars.
The Ministry’s swift response included the closure of the warehouse, which had been distributing these counterfeit goods to various stores across Kuwait. These stores, located in Mubarakiya, Salmiya, Al-Aqila, and Farwaniya, were unknowingly selling counterfeit versions of well-known international brands.
Al-Anba Daily reported that the case has been referred to the prosecution for further investigation, highlighting the seriousness with which the authorities are treating this issue. The seized counterfeit goods encompassed a wide range of products, including clothing, bags, shoes, and accessories, all bearing imitations of renowned international brands.
What is particularly concerning is the quality of these counterfeit items. They were so well-made that it was difficult to distinguish them from the genuine products. In addition to the warehouse incident, the Ministry’s efforts extended to the closure of three stores in Jahra Governorate. These stores were also found to be selling counterfeit goods, specifically high-end women’s bags, clothing, accessories, and shoes. The discovery of these stores further emphasizes the extent of the counterfeit goods market in Kuwait.
It is worth noting that the Ministry’s actions are not limited to fashion and luxury items. During their investigation, they uncovered a major market selling unauthorized children’s sportswear.
