PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Sunday denounced the bombing at the Mindanao State University in Marawi City that killed at least four people in an attack that Malaca?ang blamed on foreign terrorists.

In a strong statement, President Marcos expressed his condemnation of the senseless and heinous acts committed by foreign terrorists against the Mindanao State University (MSU) and Marawi communities. He emphasized that those who resort to violence against innocent people will always be seen as enemies of society.

President Marcos assured the victims of the bombing that assistance would be extended to them. The initial investigation revealed that the explosion occurred during a Catholic Mass being held at the MSU gymnasium to celebrate the Mindanao Week of Peace.

The government, in collaboration with the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) and local government units, is working swiftly to respond to this attack, which President Marcos considers the latest assault on peace.

Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity, vowed to pursue those responsible for the bombing. He condemned the barbaric act, stating that it has no place in a humane, civilized, and peaceful society. Secretary Galvez assured the public that the Marcos administration will exhaust all efforts to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.

This act of violence demonstrates the ruthless methods employed by lawless elements to instill fear, anger, and animosity among the people. Secretary Galvez extended his condolences and prayers to the families of the victims, as well as the students and faculty of MSU, urging them to find strength and courage in the face of this immense tragedy.

The Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity (Opapru) is now coordinating with BARMM leaders to provide the necessary assistance to the victims and their families.

In response to the bombing, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has been placed on heightened alert. PCG Commandant Adm. Ronnie Gil Gavan ordered all PCG districts to intensify intelligence efforts, conduct stricter pre-departure inspections of ships, and launch coastal security patrols.

The Federation of Free Workers (FFW), the largest alliance of labor groups and workers organizations in the country, vehemently condemned the bombing at MSU. FFW President and Nagkaisa Labor Coalition Chairman Sonny Matula stated that this act of violence directly attacks the peaceful coexistence of different faiths and religious persuasions in Philippine society.

Matula emphasized that the brutal act does not represent the true values of Muslims or Christians. Instead, it is the work of barbarians seeking to create conflict and division among Muslim and Christian communities. He highlighted the commitment of MSU graduates to support and continue the Muslim-Christian dialogue of life and faith initiated by the Prelature of Marawi with Muslim leaders.

Members of the House of Representatives also expressed their condemnation of the bombing. Lanao del Sur 1st District Representative Zia Alonto Adiong conveyed his support and offered assistance to the victims, their families, and the entire community affected by this tragic incident.

The bombing at the Mindanao State University serves as a reminder of the importance of promoting peace, understanding, and unity among diverse communities. It is crucial for the government, local authorities, and citizens to work together to ensure justice for the victims and prevent further acts of violence.

By standing united against terrorism and fostering dialogue between different religious and cultural groups, the Philippines can continue to build a society that upholds the values of peace, tolerance, and respect for all.
