The General Assembly of the Kuwait Olympic Committee (KOC) convened on Sunday to select a new board of directors for the years 2023-2027. The assembly, held at the KOC headquarters, appointed Sheikh Fahad Nasser Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah as the head of the committee.
Joining Sheikh Fahad Nasser Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah on the board are Sheikh Mubarak Faisal Al-Nawaf Al-Sabah as the vice president and Hussein Al-Musalam as the Secretary. Additionally, six other members were elected to the committee, including Sheikh Jaber Thamer AlAhmad Al-Sabah, Ali Al-Marri, Nael Al-Awadhi, Musaed Al-Ajeel, Ghazi Al-Jariwi, and Ali AlDabbous.
The General Assembly also made significant decisions regarding the KOC’s Women’s Committee. Fatma Hayyat, Sheikha Bibi Salem AlSabah, and Rabaa Al-Hajri were appointed as members to ensure that women’s involvement in sports receives the necessary attention and support.
Sheikh Fahad Al-Sabah expressed his gratitude to His Highness the Amir and His Highness the Crown Prince for their unwavering support of the KOC. He emphasized the importance of their encouragement in achieving further triumphs and successes for the national sporting teams and associations.
In his speech during the ceremony, Sheikh Fahad Al-Sabah highlighted the KOC’s accomplishments during his first term, which included numerous sporting victories at various levels. These achievements encompassed medals won at prestigious events such as the Tokyo Olympic Games, Asian Games in China, Arab Games in Algeria, and the Islamic Games in Turkey.
Under Sheikh Fahad Al-Sabah’s leadership, the KOC has implemented crucial regulatory reforms. Notably, the committee amended its statutes to align with the Olympic Charter, approved a code of ethics, and adopted a unified bylaw to streamline the work of affiliated committees. Furthermore, the KOC developed a new logo and identity and forged cooperation agreements with multiple Olympic Committees worldwide.
Recognizing the importance of women’s participation in sports and their need for support, the KOC has taken steps to facilitate their involvement. Among these decisions is the approval and facilitation of a health insurance policy for female athletes, allowing them to receive treatment abroad. Qatar’s Aspire Academy has been instrumental in providing this support, and efforts are underway to expand the scope of assistance.
The election of the new board of directors marks an important milestone for the KOC. With Sheikh Fahad Nasser Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah at the helm, the committee is poised to continue its pursuit of excellence in sports and further elevate Kuwait’s standing on the international sporting stage.
