MANILA, Philippines: According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), the country is currently experiencing the influence of two weather systems, resulting in hot and humid weather with isolated rains. Let’s take a closer look at these weather patterns and their impact across different regions.
The first weather system affecting most parts of the country is the easterlies. The easterlies refer to the hot wind coming from the Pacific Ocean. This wind is responsible for the prevailing hot and humid conditions in many areas.
In addition to the easterlies, the northeast monsoon, locally known as “Amihan,” is also present. However, it is gradually weakening. The northeast monsoon brings rain showers primarily over extreme Northern Luzon.
Pagasa weather specialist Benison Estareja shares some good news, stating that there are no tropical cyclones expected to affect the country in the coming days. This information brings relief to many, as the absence of cyclones means a reduced risk of severe weather events.
Let’s now take a closer look at the weather conditions in specific regions:
Luzon
In the areas of Batanes and Babuyan Islands, isolated rains are expected. However, for the rest of Luzon, the weather will be generally fair, with partly cloudy to cloudy skies prevailing.
Visayas
For Visayas, partly cloudy to cloudy skies are expected. The central and western portions of the region will experience hot and humid weather. However, Northern and Eastern Samar have a higher chance of isolated rain showers due to the easterlies.
Mindanao
In most parts of Mindanao, sunny skies will prevail. However, the areas of Zamboanga Peninsula, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi may experience different weather conditions, with localized thunderstorms expected. Additionally, Caraga and the Davao region may also experience localized thunderstorms due to the influence of the easterlies.
It’s important to stay updated on the latest weather forecasts and advisories from Pagasa and local authorities. While the current weather conditions are generally favorable, it’s always wise to be prepared for any sudden changes in the weather.
Remember to stay hydrated and take necessary precautions to protect yourself from the heat and humidity. Keep an umbrella handy in case of sudden rain showers, especially in areas prone to isolated rainfall.
By staying informed and prepared, we can navigate through the current weather conditions with ease and ensure our safety and well-being.
