The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) has recently revealed the official age-appropriate film ratings for the 10 entries of the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) this year. These ratings aim to guide viewers in choosing films that align with their age and preferences, ensuring a responsible and enjoyable movie-watching experience throughout the festival.

Among the entries, two films have been classified under the General Audience (G) rating. These films, namely “Family of Two (A Mother and Son Story)” by Cineko Production Inc. and “Penduko” by Viva Communications Inc., are suitable for all audiences, making them perfect choices for families and individuals of all ages.

For films rated “PG” or parental guidance, it is recommended that viewers below 13 years old watch these films with the accompaniment of a parent or supervising adult. The films under this rating include “Becky and Badette” by The Ideafirst Co. Inc., “Broken Hearts Trip” by Smart Films Production OPC, “Firefly” by GMA Network Inc., “Gomburza” by Cignal TV Inc., “Rewind” by ABS-CBN Films Production Inc. and Star Cinema, and “When I Met You in Tokyo” by JG Productions Inc.

Films carrying the “R-13” rating are suitable for viewers 13 years old and above. This rating serves as a warning for themes, language, violence, nudity, sex, horror, and drugs that may not be suitable for younger audiences. Notable entries carrying this rating include “Kampon” by Quantum Films Inc. and “Mallari” by Mentorque Events Management Service.

According to MTRCB Chairman Diorella Maria “Lala” Sotto-Antonio, these film classifications empower Filipinos to make informed choices and ensure that they have a memorable and responsible movie-watching experience during the festival. Chairman Sotto-Antonio encourages everyone to support the MMFF and embrace the magic of cinema, which promotes family bonding and cultural appreciation. The MMFF is a celebration best experienced with family and friends, and it provides an opportunity for viewers to come together and enjoy responsibly. As Chairman Sotto-Antonio stated, “Sama-sama, manumbalik po tayo sa sinehan tungo sa Responsableng Panonood.”

The 49th edition of the MMFF is scheduled to begin on Christmas Day and culminate on January 7, 2024. It promises to be a spectacular event that showcases the best of Filipino cinema. In addition to the film screenings, the festival will also feature the highly anticipated Parade of Stars, which is scheduled to take place on December 16. This year, the parade will pass through four key cities in the Camanava (Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, and Valenzuela) area for the first time in the history of the festival.

The Parade of Stars will commence at Navotas Centennial Park and conclude at Valenzuela People’s Park. Spanning a length of 8.77 kilometers, the parade will move slowly, allowing spectators to fully enjoy the vibrant displays and performances. The estimated duration of the parade is approximately three hours, providing ample time for the audience to immerse themselves in the festivities.

The MMFF is an event that brings together both local and international audiences, showcasing the diversity and creativity of Filipino cinema. With the MTRCB’s age-appropriate film ratings, viewers can confidently select films that cater to their preferences and ensure a memorable movie experience. So mark your calendars and join in the celebration of the Metro Manila Film Festival, where the magic of cinema awaits.
