Program to Integrate People with Special Needs into the Labor Market

The National Office for Human Rights in Kuwait has taken a significant step towards integrating people with mental disabilities into the labor market. In collaboration with the “21 Center” for mental disabilities and “360 Mall,” the office organized a special program aimed at providing field work opportunities in commercial stores.

The program is part of a larger awareness campaign launched by the office, spanning over three weeks. The first week of the program has concluded, witnessing a remarkable turnout of participants. Ali Al-Thuwaini, a member of the Rights Committee for Persons with Needs, spoke to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) about the initiative and its objectives.

Al-Thuwaini emphasized the importance of raising community awareness about the concept of integrating people with disabilities into the local labor market, particularly those who face challenges in finding employment. He highlighted the committee’s commitment to advocating for the employment of individuals with mental disabilities, citing their unique capabilities that enable them to contribute to the field of production and skills development.

The ultimate goal of this initiative is to create a society that recognizes and respects the rights of individuals with mental disabilities. By providing job opportunities and fostering a supportive environment for their professional growth, the committee aims to empower this group and help them achieve their career aspirations.

Integrating people with special needs into the labor market is not only a matter of social responsibility but also a legal obligation. Kuwait, like many other countries, has enacted laws and regulations to protect the rights of individuals with disabilities and promote their inclusion in all aspects of society.

Under Kuwaiti law, employers are required to provide reasonable accommodations to individuals with disabilities, ensuring equal access to employment opportunities.
