The Bureau of Customs (BoC) is calling on the owner of one of the two smuggled Bugatti Chiron hypercars to surrender the vehicle to the authorities. The blue sports car, registered to Thu Thrang Nguyen with plate number NIM 5448, has caught the attention of the BoC. Customs Commissioner Bien Rubio has issued a warning to the owner, stating that failure to surrender will result in consequences. The location of the car is known to the authorities, and they are currently verifying this information. However, the BoC strongly advises the owner to surrender, just as the owner of the red Bugatti did on Saturday.
The other smuggled vehicle, a red sports car registered to Menguin Zhu with plate number NIM 5450, was already surrendered to the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service-Manila International Container Port on Friday. The BoC had previously announced that they were pursuing two smuggled Bugatti Chiron sports cars, each worth around P165 million.
In their efforts to uncover the details surrounding the importation and registration of these cars, the BoC is coordinating with the Bureau of Immigration to investigate the background of the foreign registered owner. They are also working with the Land Transportation Office to gather further information on how the two Bugatti cars were able to be registered without following the proper importation process and without paying the correct duties and taxes.
Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service Director Verne Enciso has issued a directive to intensify the hunt for the smuggled car. Enciso assures the owner of the blue Bugatti that they will find them, emphasizing that a sports car of this caliber attracts attention on the road. With the promise of a cash reward, the BoC expects to receive information as soon as the car is spotted on the road. Enciso warns the owner that it’s going to be a small world from now on, implying that the authorities will be closely monitoring their movements.
To incentivize the public to come forward with information, the BoC has promised cash rewards for informants in accordance with Section 1512 of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act. This section provides a bounty amounting to 20 percent of the value of the confiscated smuggled goods.
The BoC’s pursuit of these smuggled Bugatti Chiron hypercars serves as a reminder that no one is above the law. Regardless of the value or prestige of a vehicle, it is essential to follow the proper importation process and pay the necessary duties and taxes. The BoC’s efforts to uncover the truth behind these smuggled cars demonstrates their commitment to upholding the law and ensuring that all importations are done legally and transparently.
In conclusion, the BoC is urging the owner of the smuggled blue Bugatti Chiron to surrender the vehicle to the authorities. Failure to comply will result in consequences. The BoC is determined to locate the owner and has promised cash rewards for informants. This case serves as a reminder that all importations must go through the proper process and that no one is above the law.
