The Ministry of Public Works has recently announced that the Chinese State Construction Engineering Company has been granted a contract for the construction of a wastewater treatment plant in South Al-Mutla’a, located in the Jahra Governorate. The project, with an estimated budget of 175 million dinars (equivalent to 582 million dollars), aims to create a state-of-the-art facility capable of treating 400 thousand cubic meters of water on a daily basis, according to Al-Anba daily. The scope of the project includes the construction of underground buffer tanks with a capacity of 50,000 cubic meters, ensuring efficient storage and management of wastewater. Additionally, a tank unloading station with an identical capacity will be established to facilitate the seamless transfer of treated wastewater.
In order to maximize the utilization of the treated wastewater, the contractor will also develop a comprehensive network that extends from the sewage treatment plant in Al-Mutla’a to the irrigation networks in the city of Al-Mutlaa. This will enable the efficient distribution of treated water for agricultural purposes, contributing to the sustainability of the region’s water resources.
Furthermore, recognizing the importance of preserving the natural environment, the project includes the construction of a 40-kilometer water line from the sewage treatment plant’s tanks in Al-Mutlaa to the bird reserve in Jahra Governorate.
