The construction and civil works for the Wafra Electrical Station project in Kuwait are progressing according to schedule, reaching a completion rate of over 50 percent, as announced by Engineer Muhammad Al-Sheikh, the Executive Vice President of Networks at the Electricity Interconnection Authority for the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf. The project is expected to be ready and delivered by December 2024, as reported by Al-Rai daily.

During a recent field visit, a delegation from the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, along with officials from the Gulf Electricity Interconnection Authority, reviewed the progress of the project. The delegation was accompanied by engineers who are part of a program aimed at qualifying and training newly graduated Kuwaiti engineers and architects. This program, organized by the Kuwait Fund for Development since 2004, plays a crucial role in providing practical experience and training to national cadres.

One of the trainee engineers, Othman Al-Amhouj, shared his insights on the project. He mentioned that they are currently working with Omexom GCC Projects in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which is responsible for implementing the Wafra station project of the Gulf Electrical Interconnection Authority. Al-Amhouj expressed his excitement about the visit to the project site, where they had the opportunity to inspect the progress alongside the delegation from the Kuwaiti Fund and the Gulf Electrical Interconnection Authority, as well as interact with the contractor and engineers from the implementing company.

The Wafra station is a significant expansion project that aims to connect the network of the Gulf Electricity Interconnection Authority to the Kuwait network through four circuits with a voltage of 400 kilovolts. The project, with a total cost of $270 million, is crucial for ensuring the continuity and sustainability of electrical energy at all times. It is part of the regional development projects in the field of joint Gulf and regional cooperation, aimed at meeting the challenges and increasing demand in the Gulf interconnection sector and providing electrical energy to all Gulf countries.

By connecting the networks, the Wafra Electrical Station project will contribute to the overall stability and reliability of the electrical grid in the region. It will enhance the capacity to meet the growing energy demands and ensure a consistent supply of electricity. The project’s progress is not only a testament to the commitment of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development and the Gulf Electricity Interconnection Authority but also highlights the importance of collaboration and cooperation among Gulf countries.

Furthermore, the training program for Kuwaiti engineers and architects, organized by the Kuwait Fund for Development, plays a vital role in developing the national workforce and equipping them with the necessary skills and practical experience. This initiative reflects the commitment of Kuwait to invest in its human capital and contribute to the development of the region.

The Wafra Electrical Station project is a significant milestone in the journey towards achieving a reliable and interconnected electrical grid in the Gulf region. With its strategic location and commitment to sustainable energy solutions, Kuwait is playing a crucial role in meeting the energy needs of the region and ensuring a prosperous future for its citizens.

As the construction and civil works continue to progress, it is evident that the Wafra Electrical Station project is on track to be completed by December 2024. The dedication and collaboration of all stakeholders involved highlight the importance of such projects in strengthening regional cooperation and meeting the challenges of the evolving energy landscape.
