Major General Yousef Al Khadda, head of the General Traffic Department (GTD), has revealed alarming statistics regarding traffic violations and accidents in a recent statement. From December 30, 2023, to January 5, 2024, a total of 324 major traffic accidents and 916 minor traffic accidents were reported. These numbers highlight the urgent need for increased road safety measures and stricter enforcement of traffic laws.
According to the weekly statistics provided by the GTD, a staggering 21,924 various traffic violations were issued during this period. These violations encompass a wide range of offenses, including speeding, reckless driving, and failure to adhere to traffic signals. In addition to the traffic violations, the GTD also apprehended 37 juveniles who were found driving without a license.
