The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, in collaboration with the United Nations, has been a beacon of hope for refugees and displaced people across the globe. Over a span of seven years, from 2016 to 2022, the Fund has generously contributed 28 grants amounting to approximately $88.1 million.

These grants have been instrumental in funding various projects aimed at improving the lives of refugees and displaced individuals. One of the key areas of focus has been the treatment of cancer patients among these vulnerable populations. The Fund has provided support to ensure that these individuals receive the necessary medical care and treatment. Additionally, the Fund has worked towards enhancing healthcare services and facilities, as well as improving the overall living conditions of refugees and displaced people in Lebanon, Syria, Bangladesh, the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, and Yemen.

Walid Al-Bahr, the Fund’s Acting Director General, emphasized the organization’s commitment to international development, with a particular focus on infrastructure, healthcare, education, and humanitarian aid. Al-Bahr stated, “We pay great attention to humanitarian aspects, especially issues of supporting refugees who find themselves in difficult circumstances due to conflicts, social and political unrest, and natural disasters.”

The Kuwait Fund’s dedication to humanitarian causes is driven by a deep-rooted conviction based on solidarity, compassion, and humanity. Al-Bahr highlighted that their mission extends beyond immediate relief efforts, aiming to sow the seeds of peace, reconciliation, economic and social stability, and long-term development. By addressing the underlying causes of displacement and conflict, the Fund strives to create sustainable solutions for those affected.

As an influential player in promoting economic and social progress in Arab countries and other developing nations, the Fund provides both financial and technical support. Al-Bahr emphasized that the Fund’s priority areas and projects, including the complex issue of refugees and displaced persons, are identified based on a comprehensive set of criteria.

The Fund adopts a holistic approach to identify these priority areas, conducting detailed needs analysis, assessing the scale and scope of the challenges, and evaluating socio-economic conditions. Additionally, the Fund takes into account requests submitted by affected countries or international bodies. Collaboration with specialized United Nations agencies and other partners is crucial in this process, as they provide vital information for decision-making. Continuous monitoring and evaluation ensure that the assistance provided remains effective and aligned with the evolving needs of refugees and displaced people.

It is important to note that the Kuwait Fund’s role in assisting and providing relief to refugees and displaced people is closely intertwined with the broader efforts of the State of Kuwait. The Fund plays a prominent role in supporting and assisting displaced individuals from Palestine, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, and Myanmar, among others.

The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development’s unwavering commitment to addressing the needs of refugees and displaced people is a testament to the organization’s dedication to humanitarian causes. Through their financial and technical support, they not only provide immediate relief but also strive to create lasting change and foster peace and stability in regions affected by conflict and displacement.
