The Kuwait Municipality is committed to upholding the security and safety of workers and individuals involved in residential construction projects. In its ongoing efforts, the municipality has been conducting inspection campaigns across the six governorates of Kuwait. Recently, the fourth campaign took place in the Jaber Al-Ahmad area of the Capital Governorate.
Abdullah Al-Jaber, the construction supervisor in the Engineering Audit and Follow-up Department of the Capital Municipality, provided insights into the campaign. He explained that the primary objective was to inspect the buildings under construction in the Jaber Al-Ahmad area. During the inspection, several serious violations of security and safety conditions were identified, leading to the issuance of reports and warnings to the responsible contractors.
One of the observed violations was the presence of a fire flame near a building under construction, posing a significant danger. In response, all workers were immediately evacuated, and the contractor was summoned to take appropriate legal measures in accordance with the municipality’s rules and regulations. Additionally, the campaign identified workers failing to wear safety helmets and neglecting other necessary precautions, jeopardizing their own safety.
Furthermore, the campaign revealed instances of pouring concrete without proper supervision or adherence to safety conditions. Such violations were promptly reported to the competent authorities within the Kuwait Municipality for necessary action. These campaigns are an inherent right of the municipality and are conducted throughout the year to ensure strict compliance with regulations. They serve as a clear message from the regulatory body, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the correct laws and designated regulations.
Over the past four months alone, the Capital Municipality has issued 52 reports of building regulation violations and 16 warnings regarding non-compliance. Additionally, 14 engineering offices and contractors have been held accountable for their failure to adhere to building regulations. These numbers highlight the municipality’s commitment to maintaining safety standards and preventing any potential risks associated with construction projects.
In a separate initiative, the supervisory team of the Public Cleanliness and Road Works Department in the Al-Ahmadi Governorate responded to a complaint circulated on social media sites. Following the complaint, the team successfully removed 17 illegal camps in the Ahmadi area. The municipality, taking this opportunity, urged citizens planning to camp this year to set up their camps only in designated areas specified by the municipality. It emphasized that the inspection teams will not hesitate to remove any camps established outside these designated places. Furthermore, the municipality stressed the importance of adhering to the controls and conditions for setting up spring camps.
The Kuwait Municipality’s dedication to safety and compliance is evident through its consistent inspection campaigns. By actively monitoring construction sites and taking necessary actions against violations, the municipality plays a crucial role in ensuring the well-being of workers and the general public. These efforts not only maintain a secure environment but also promote a culture of compliance with laws and regulations.
