Kuwaiti Festivals Association’s Initiative Promotes Food Security and Sustainable Development

The Public Authority for Agriculture Affairs and Fish Resources (PAAAFR) has emphasized the significance of the Kuwaiti Festivals Association (KFA) initiative known as ‘Sustainable Agricultural Tourism.’ This initiative aims to enhance the concept of food security, support national produce and Kuwaiti farmers, and contribute to sustainable development in alignment with the United Nations goals.

In a statement to the Kuwait News Agency, Nasser Taqi, the Director General of the Agriculture Authority, highlighted the importance of the Festivals Association’s initiative. He mentioned that it aligns with the government’s work program 2023-2027, which focuses on supporting national agricultural products. The initiative is sponsored by PAAAFR and aims to bolster the entire agricultural sector, particularly the national project for managing the tourism and entertainment scene in the country. This project is undertaken by the Festivals Association in collaboration with various government institutions.

Taqi emphasized that PAAAFR supports all national initiatives that contribute to the advancement of agriculture, including the Festivals Association initiative. He stressed that preserving the country and its environment is a shared responsibility, with citizens playing an essential role as partners.

The Agriculture Authority is committed to supporting Kuwaiti farmers and the national producer in every possible way. It actively seeks partnerships with any effort or entity that aims to improve the country, its economy, tourism, and food security across all sectors. Together, these efforts will contribute to the overall development of Kuwait.

Taqi highlighted that the ‘sustainable agricultural tourism’ initiative represents a significant shift towards promoting sustainable green practices in society. It focuses on societal progress in sustainability and aims to provide a distinguished model for consolidating sustainability principles.

Tariq Al-Obaid, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Kuwait Festivals Association, echoed the importance of the initiative. He stated that its launch reflects the national project for managing the tourism and entertainment scene in the country. The initiative aims to strengthen support for local farmers and their role in providing national products that compete with imported goods. Furthermore, it seeks to stimulate domestic tourism, particularly in the agricultural sector, among citizens.

Al-Obaid highlighted that the initiative also aims to drive innovation, competitiveness, and societal creativity. These factors are crucial for achieving sustainable development goals, and the ‘Sustainable Agricultural Tourism’ initiative is a key component in this regard.
