The Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy has received the green light from the Fatwa and Legislation Department to enter into a contract with a specialized company for the supply of electrical energy. This partnership will be facilitated through direct orders.

Reliable sources within the ministry have informed Al-Seyassah that the company had previously proposed a plan to provide the ministry with 1,500 megawatts of electricity. The main contractor for this project is an international company with expertise in the field.

This strategic move by the Ministry aims to ensure the country’s electricity needs are met by 2024. It also serves as a proactive measure to address any potential shortage in electricity production during the upcoming summer season. The current production capacity is insufficient to guarantee the stability and security of the Ministry’s network, especially when consumption rates rise and loads increase due to high temperatures.

The sources describe this step as an “initial measure,” highlighting the Ministry’s innovative approach to collaborate with external parties in procuring electrical energy. This approach has become necessary due to delays in production projects caused by bureaucratic processes and the limited availability of funds allocated for building power stations over the past five financial years.

Additionally, the Ministry of Finance has granted approval for the allocation of 30 million dinars within its current fiscal year budget. This allocation will be used to purchase additional electrical energy from the Gulf interconnection or other companies, should the need arise during the summer.
