MANILA, Philippines: The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) announced on Monday that the country’s main gateway experienced a steady increase in passenger volume and flight movement during the fourth quarter of 2023.

In November, MIAA recorded a total of 3,813,781 passengers, with 2,019,882 being domestic travelers and 1,793,899 international travelers. This represents a significant increase of 23 percent compared to the same period last year and is nearly equivalent to 97 percent of the passenger count in November 2019, before the Covid-19 pandemic.

Alongside the rise in passenger volume, there was also a notable increase in flight activity at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in November, surpassing the previous records set in 2022 and 2019.

The total number of commercial, cargo, and utility flights reached 24,120, marking a 13 percent increase compared to November 2022 and a seven percent growth from November 2019.

Bryan Co, the Officer-in-Charge of MIAA, expressed confidence that NAIA is well-positioned to meet its year-end projections of 45 million passengers and 275,000 flights.

“Our confidence is fueled by the impressive 11-month totals, in which we have already accommodated 41,213,734 passengers and 254,174 flights at NAIA, and the anticipated passenger surge during the festive season in December,” Co said.

Furthermore, the Manila International Airport’s progress was reinforced by a significant enhancement in the on-time performance (OTP) of commercial flights. In November, the airport recorded an average OTP of 81 percent, following 82 percent in October and 80 percent in September.

These positive developments in passenger volume, flight movement, and on-time performance highlight the resilience and recovery of the aviation industry in the Philippines. Despite the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, the Manila International Airport has demonstrated its ability to adapt and thrive.

As travel restrictions continue to ease and vaccination rates rise, more people are regaining confidence in air travel, leading to the steady increase in passenger numbers. This growth is not only beneficial for the aviation industry but also for the overall economy, as it signifies the return of tourism and business activities.

The Manila International Airport’s commitment to providing a safe and efficient travel experience is evident in its consistent on-time performance. With an average OTP of 81 percent, passengers can rely on the airport’s punctuality, ensuring smooth and hassle-free journeys.

As the year comes to a close, the Manila International Airport Authority remains dedicated to maintaining its high standards and meeting the growing demands of the traveling public. The anticipated passenger surge during the festive season in December will further contribute to the airport’s impressive year-end figures.

With its strategic location, modern facilities, and commitment to excellence, the Manila International Airport continues to be a vital hub for domestic and international travel. As the aviation industry recovers, the airport will play a crucial role in connecting people, facilitating trade, and driving economic growth in the Philippines.
