The Department of Tourism (DoT) recently relaunched the Philippine Tourism Awards (PTA) with the aim of promoting industry excellence and acknowledging the continuous support of industry stakeholders, institutions, and partners. This prestigious event serves as a platform to recognize the outstanding contributions made by individuals, institutions, change-makers, and trailblazers in various sectors of the tourism industry.

Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco expressed the significance of the Philippine Tourism Awards, stating, “Through this program, we aim to give recognition to those who have greatly contributed to the growth of tourism, making it one of the strongest pillars of our economy. Not only does tourism provide millions of jobs for Filipinos, but it also offers crucial livelihood and employment opportunities in communities across the country.”

By reviving the Philippine Tourism Awards, the DoT aims to foster the improvement of tourism services throughout the nation. The program serves as a platform to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of our partners in the tourism industry, ultimately raising the overall quality of tourism services in the Philippines.

The Philippine Tourism Awards has been developed as the most distinguished citation in Philippine tourism. It is the rebranding of the former Kasama sa Lakbay Kaunlaran ng Bayan (Kalakbay) Awards and Tourism Star Philippines. This rebranding reflects the DoT’s vision of establishing the PTA as the pinnacle and most prestigious accolade in the realm of Philippine tourism. The PTA pays tribute to the past while recognizing the present and future achievements of the tourism industry as the engine of economic growth.

Secretary Frasco emphasized that the program also aims to acknowledge the efforts of industry players and local governments who have excelled in promoting and strengthening the country’s tourism sector. Their dedication and commitment have played a vital role in the growth and success of Philippine tourism.

This year’s Philippine Tourism Awards will feature two major categories: the Philippine Tourism Industry Awards and the Philippine Tourism Pillar Awards. The Philippine Tourism Pillar Awards, as part of the DoT’s 50th anniversary celebrations, will honor tourism sector pioneers and organizations who have made significant contributions to the industry. This category recognizes the foundations and pillars that have shaped and paved the way for the growth of Philippine tourism.

On the other hand, the Philippine Tourism Industry Awards will be a regular national award event that recognizes both the corporate and governmental sectors involved in the development and marketing of Philippine tourism. This category highlights the efforts of organizations and individuals who have played a vital role in promoting and enhancing the tourism industry.

To ensure transparency and fairness, the DoT will release an official announcement for each award category, providing detailed information on the application process and criteria. This will allow interested parties to prepare and submit their applications accordingly.

The Philippine Tourism Awards serve as a testament to the dedication and hard work of individuals, organizations, and local governments in promoting and strengthening the tourism sector in the Philippines. Through this recognition, the DoT aims to inspire and motivate others to strive for excellence in their contributions to the industry. By continuously improving the quality of tourism services, the Philippines will continue to attract visitors from around the world, bolstering the nation’s economy and creating opportunities for millions of Filipinos.
