In a partnership with the Department of Housing Settlement and Urban Development (DHSUD) and Social Housing and Finance Corp. (SHFC), the Valenzuela City government led the turnover of 192 housing units for residents who have been living in danger zones for years. This initiative aims to provide safe and secure housing for the community.
The event took place in Barangay Veinte Reales, where the Laon-Community Mortgage Program (CMP) Vertical Housing Project Phase 1 is located. Mayor Weslie “Wes” Gatchalian and his brother, former mayor and now Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rexlon “Rex” Gatchalian, graced the occasion, emphasizing the importance of addressing the housing needs of the residents.
Joining the ribbon-cutting ceremony were DHSUD Undersecretary Lyle Filomeon Pasco, SHFC President Federico Laxa, and city and village officials, along with the shelter beneficiaries. The turnover signifies the completion of the housing units, which are now ready for occupancy.
Following the turnover, the groundbreaking and capsule-laying ceremony for the second phase of the CMP Vertical Housing Project took place. The city government announced that construction for this phase, consisting of 11 buildings and 528 units, will commence in December this year. The entire housing project spans a 6-hectare lot in Laon, Barangay Veinte Reales, and will be completed in three phases, totaling 34 buildings and 1,632 housing units.
Mayor Wes Gatchalian expressed his enthusiasm for these projects, stating, “This marks the beginning of our pipeline projects designed to further develop Barangay Veinte Reales, especially in terms of housing and availability of social services. We are committed to providing our residents with a safe and comfortable environment.”
In addition to the housing project, the 3S Center Veinte Reales will be constructed near the Laon Housing Project. This 2,490-square-meter building will house a barangay hall, police substation, daycare center, mega health station, homeowners’ association office, and a basketball court, among other amenities. The 3S Center aims to provide essential services and facilities to the community, ensuring their needs are met.
The Valenzuela City government’s partnership with DHSUD and SHFC demonstrates their commitment to improving the living conditions of their residents. By providing safe and affordable housing, they are addressing the long-standing issue of residents living in danger zones. These initiatives not only offer a solution to housing challenges but also contribute to the overall development of Barangay Veinte Reales.
With the completion of the first phase and the upcoming construction of the second phase, the Valenzuela City government is making significant strides in creating a sustainable and inclusive community. The collaboration between government agencies and local officials showcases the importance of working together to achieve common goals.
As the housing project continues to progress, it will serve as a model for other cities and communities facing similar challenges. The Valenzuela City government’s dedication to improving the lives of its residents sets an inspiring example for other local governments across the country.
Through initiatives like the CMP Vertical Housing Project, the Valenzuela City government is not only providing housing but also empowering its residents to build a better future. By addressing the housing needs of the community, they are creating a strong foundation for growth and development.
