House Panels Approve Amnesty Proclamations

Learn more about the House panels’ concurrence with President Marcos Jr.’s amnesty proclamations, which aim to reintegrate former rebels and promote peace in the country. The proposed resolutions cover various groups and crimes committed in pursuit of political beliefs. The Committees on Justice and on National Defense and Security at the House of Representatives have concurred with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s amnesty proclamations. In a joint meeting, they adopted the proposed House Concurrent Resolutions 19 to 22. The granting of amnesty is seen as a crucial part of the comprehensive peace process, allowing former rebels to reintegrate into society and rebuild their lives. Amnesty will be granted to members of various groups, including the Rebolusyonaryong Partido ng Manggagawa ng Pilipinas/Revolutionary Proletarian Army/Alex Boncayao Brigade, former Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army-National Democratic Front, and members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and Moro National Liberation Front. The amnesty covers crimes committed in pursuit of political beliefs, and an Amnesty Commission will be formed to assess eligibility. The committee-adopted resolutions now await approval from the House plenary.
