Boosting Ties with Big Business Groups to Drive Development

GO Negosyo, a leading entrepreneurship advocacy organization, is set to intensify its partnerships with big business groups in line with the government’s efforts to promote the growth of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). This initiative was announced by the organization’s founder, Jose Maria “Joey” Concepcion 3rd, during a meeting with the heads of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) chapters in the National Capital Region (NCR) and an official from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

Concepcion emphasized the importance of the MSME sector as a key driver of the country’s economic growth. As GO Negosyo expands its mentoring programs for MSMEs, it recognizes the need for mentors from respected business groups to support and guide these entrepreneurs. The collaboration with organizations such as the PCCI, the Philippine Franchise Association, the Philippine Retailers Association, and the Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, among others, provides a pool of experienced volunteers who mentor small and aspiring entrepreneurs during various free public entrepreneurship mentoring events organized by GO Negosyo.

According to Trade Undersecretary Cristina Roque, uplifting just 10 percent of MSMEs can significantly uplift the entire economy. This highlights the potential impact of empowering MSMEs and the importance of the collaborative efforts between the government, private sector, and organizations like GO Negosyo.

GO Negosyo has set an ambitious goal of assisting at least 200,000 MSMEs by 2028. To achieve this, the organization focuses on providing MSMEs with access to the three M’s of entrepreneurship: money (capital), markets, and mentoring. Through its own programs and partnerships with the government and private sector, GO Negosyo offers a range of initiatives, including public entrepreneurship mentoring events, structured learning courses, online seminars, national summits, and specialized programs for youth, women, overseas Filipino workers, tourism, and digital technology.

The organization also collaborates with government outreach programs, such as the Youthpreneur and agri-education projects with the Department of Education, and provides entrepreneurship mentoring during first lady Marie Louise “Liza” Araneta-Marcos’ LAB for All caravans. These partnerships allow GO Negosyo to reach a wider audience and provide valuable support to MSMEs across different sectors.

The meeting between GO Negosyo and the PCCI also highlighted other areas of opportunity and concern. The PCCI officers discussed the potential of the tourism sector, the trillion-dollar potentials and challenges of the country’s halal industry, and the need for industry data monitoring and evaluation to aid in mapping and impact analysis, particularly for the MSME sector. Trade Undersecretary Roque assured smooth coordination and cooperation with crucial agencies, such as the Bureau of Small and Medium Enterprise Development and Small Business Corp, to address these issues effectively.

It is worth noting that MSMEs contribute 45 percent to the country’s gross domestic product and provide employment to 85 percent of the workforce. By supporting the development of the MSME sector, GO Negosyo and its partners aim to foster inclusive economic growth and create more opportunities for Filipinos.
