The Department of Education (DepEd) has taken a significant step towards promoting entrepreneurship and agriculture enterprise among Filipino youth by signing a memorandum of agreement (MoA) with Go Negosyo. This partnership aims to empower the youth through various programs and initiatives.
Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte and Go Negosyo founder Jose Maria “Joey” Concepcion 3rd signed the MoA during the organization’s 18th anniversary in Makati City. The collaboration between the government and the private sector is expected to have a positive impact on the development of an entrepreneurial mindset among Filipino youth.
The programs outlined in the MoA are designed to foster an entrepreneurial spirit among the youth, provide mentorship to build essential skills, enhance financial literacy, raise awareness about agriculture, cultivate entrepreneurial skills in agriculture, and facilitate industry connections for mentorship.
One of the initiatives mentioned in the agreement is the “Pampaaralang Taniman ng mga Agribida (PTA),” which aims to introduce basic agriculture concepts to high school students. With the support of the private sector, school gardens can be established, serving as platforms for communities to come together, work towards a shared goal, and promote healthy eating habits.
Education Secretary Duterte expressed excitement about the partnership, emphasizing the importance of developing a responsive curriculum for agribusiness and entrepreneurship. By incorporating real-world examples and hands-on activities, learners will be able to grasp theoretical concepts more effectively and foster an entrepreneurial spirit.
Go Negosyo founder Joey Concepcion highlighted the success of the organization’s public-private partnerships. He noted that some of the most prominent agriculture companies have been organized under the Kalap, or Kapatid Angat Lahat sa Agri, initiative, which aims to harness the private sector’s potential to scale up the country’s agriculture sector.
Concepcion also acknowledged the increasing interest of young Filipinos in entrepreneurship. He believes that the partnership with DepEd will “institutionalize” entrepreneurship training among future entrepreneurs. By integrating this training into the primary education curriculum, the program aims to reach more young Filipinos and expose them to the world of entrepreneurship.
Last November 25, Go Negosyo held the pilot run of its “Youthpreneur” program, attracting hundreds of senior high school students from 17 schools in the National Capital Region. The success of the pilot event indicates promising outcomes for future programs aimed at nurturing the next generation of Filipino entrepreneurs.
Following the signing of the MoA, a technical working group consisting of members from DepEd and Go Negosyo will be established to oversee, implement, and fulfill the objectives outlined in the agreement. DepEd will provide policy guidance, data, and evaluation of program implementation, while Go Negosyo will be responsible for providing mentors, securing support and resources, and leading in the implementation of the programs in coordination with DepEd.
This collaboration between DepEd and Go Negosyo marks a significant milestone in promoting entrepreneurship and agriculture enterprise among Filipino youth. By equipping the youth with essential skills, knowledge, and opportunities, the partnership aims to create a more vibrant and prosperous future for the country.
