The Philippine Center for Entrepreneurship-Go Negosyo founder, Jose Maria “Joey” Concepcion III, has once again reaffirmed his commitment to assisting overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in achieving success in entrepreneurship. In his speech at the Go Negosyo Balik Bayan entrepreneurship fair held at the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City, Concepcion emphasized the importance of maintaining an optimistic outlook despite the challenges that may arise.
Concepcion acknowledged that the Philippines faces numerous obstacles, but he firmly believes that by nurturing more successful entrepreneurs, the country’s economy will experience significant growth. He expressed his conviction that it is the responsibility of the community to support OFWs, recognizing that their time as overseas workers is not indefinite. He highlighted the unique skills and talents possessed by Filipinos in the service industry, whether in hotels or medical facilities, emphasizing that the Filipino excellence in service is unparalleled.
Concepcion further emphasized that OFWs should carefully plan their investments, considering the advantage of their service excellence when deciding on a business venture. By leveraging their expertise and capitalizing on their strengths, OFWs can maximize their potential as successful entrepreneurs.
Pasay City Mayor Imelda Calixto-Rubiano echoed Concepcion’s sentiments, assuring the audience of the city’s unwavering support for Go Negosyo programs. She expressed her commitment to providing opportunities for the local population and taking pride in showcasing the Filipino spirit to the rest of the world. This collaborative effort between the government and private organizations like Go Negosyo aims to empower OFWs and encourage them to explore entrepreneurship as a means of sustainable livelihood.
During the event, Danilo Hizon, a recipient of the Balik Bayan Award, shared his success story. After spending 35 years working in Dubai, Hizon utilized his experience and passion to establish Danhizon Farms. Hizon’s dedication and careful preparation for retirement allowed him to seamlessly transition into entrepreneurship, demonstrating the importance of long-term planning and finding fulfillment in one’s chosen path.
Another awardee, former seafarer Jose Crisanto Lasam of Dentista nina Juan, imparted valuable advice to aspiring OFW entrepreneurs. He emphasized the significance of thoroughly studying the business they intend to pursue, assuring them that proper preparation would eliminate fear and uncertainty. By acquiring the necessary knowledge and skills, future OFW entrepreneurs can confidently navigate the challenges that come with starting a business.
