President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has announced the appointment of Eric Jose Castro Ines as the acting general manager and member of the board of directors of the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA). Ines will be taking over from Chiong, as stated in his appointment letter dated December 15, 2023.
Eric Jose Castro Ines brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He is an airport operations expert who has completed an Airport and Airline Management and Aviation Security course at the Bailbrook College School of Aviation in the United Kingdom. In addition, he has extensive experience as a senior security officer for Gulf Air in both Manila and Southeast Asia, as well as a trainee for Airline Operations with the same company.
Furthermore, Ines has also contributed his expertise in the government sector. He served as the senior executive assistant to the secretary of the Department of Local Government and Community Development (DLGCD) from April 1, 1973, to March 31, 1986. This diverse background equips him with a comprehensive understanding of airport operations, security protocols, and government processes.
The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) is an attached agency of the Department of Transportation and is responsible for the upgrade and provision of safe, efficient, and reliable airport facilities for both international and domestic air travel. With Ines at the helm, the MIAA can benefit from his extensive knowledge and expertise in airport management and operations.
Ines’s appointment as the acting general manager of MIAA underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring the smooth and secure operation of Manila’s international airport. His experience in airport operations and airline management will be invaluable in maintaining the highest standards of service and safety for travelers.
As the new acting general manager, Ines will play a crucial role in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Manila International Airport Authority. His appointment comes at a time when the aviation industry is facing unprecedented challenges due to the global pandemic. With his expertise and leadership, Ines will be instrumental in navigating these challenges and implementing measures to safeguard the well-being of passengers and airport personnel.
