In a significant move towards empowering Judiciary employees with access to affordable housing solutions, the Supreme Court (SC) of the Philippines has joined forces with the Home Development Mutual Fund (HDMF Pag-IBIG).
Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo emphasized the importance of setting an example in upholding and advancing the rights of those within the institution, including the right to adequate housing. Speaking at the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Supreme Court and Pag-IBIG at the Session Hall of the Supreme Court in Ermita, Manila, Chief Justice Gesmundo stated, “This institution is a bastion of rights, and it is only fitting that we lead by example in upholding and advancing the rights of those within the institution, including, through this undertaking, the right to adequate housing.”
The MoU, initiated by Senior Associate Justice Marvic Leonen, outlines the implementation of a Group Sale of Real and Other Properties Acquired (ROPA) Program by the High Court. Under this program, the Supreme Court will facilitate and assist court employees in identifying their preferred property from the list of acquired assets (AAs) or through home-matching with available inventories of Pag-IBIG Fund’s accredited developers.
In addition to the Group Sale of ROPA Program, HDMF Pag-IBIG will extend individual housing loans to qualified court employees, subject to its prevailing housing loan policies and guidelines. To ensure a smooth process, a Collection Servicing Agreement will be established between the Supreme Court and Pag-IBIG for the collection of monthly housing loan amortization from employees who participate in the group sale.
Chief Justice Gesmundo expressed his hope that the signing of the MoU serves as a testament to the commitment of the Court to address the needs and interests of its employees. By doing so, the employees can provide better service to the Supreme Court, the justice system, and the people of the Philippines.
This partnership between the Supreme Court and HDMF Pag-IBIG signifies a significant step towards ensuring affordable housing options for Judiciary employees. By assisting court employees in finding suitable properties and offering individual housing loans, the Supreme Court is actively working to improve the lives of its workforce.
Access to affordable housing is a fundamental right that contributes to the overall well-being and stability of individuals and their families. This collaboration recognizes the importance of providing Judiciary employees with the opportunity to secure affordable housing, thereby enhancing their quality of life and enabling them to focus on their professional responsibilities with peace of mind.
The Supreme Court’s commitment to addressing the housing needs of its employees sets a positive example for other institutions and organizations. By prioritizing the welfare of their workforce, institutions can foster a productive and supportive work environment.
In conclusion, the partnership between the Supreme Court and HDMF Pag-IBIG demonstrates a proactive approach to improving the lives of Judiciary employees. By providing access to affordable housing solutions, the Supreme Court is not only fulfilling its responsibilities as an institution but also setting an example for others to follow. This initiative showcases the Court’s dedication to the well-being and rights of its employees, ultimately benefiting the justice system and the people of the Philippines.
