Tansingco emphasizes that these unscrupulous recruiters often employ persuasive tactics to convince job seekers to part with their hard-earned money. The urgency of this warning stems from a recent incident involving a female trafficking victim who was rescued by immigration operatives on January 8. The victim disclosed that she had been offered escort services by an individual posing as an immigration officer. Shockingly, she had paid a staggering amount of P80,000 for these services, in addition to a plane ticket.
Initially, the victim claimed that she was traveling to Taiwan as a tourist. However, further investigation revealed that her actual destination was Albania in Southern Europe, where she had been promised employment with an electric company. Upon her arrival at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3, she was met by her supposed escort, who then demanded an additional payment of P67,000.
This distressing case has been escalated to the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking, which is diligently working to track down the perpetrators responsible for this heinous crime. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers lurking behind seemingly attractive job offers found on social media platforms.
