MANILA, Philippines: European Ambassador to the Philippines, Luc Véron, strongly denounced the recent bombing at Mindanao State University (MSU) in Marawi City, expressing his deep sadness over the tragic incident. The bombing took place on Sunday during a Mass being held in the MSU gym, resulting in the loss of four lives and multiple injuries.
“It’s deeply disheartening to learn of today’s explosion at Mindanao State University in Marawi. Violence has no place in schools,” Véron wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, emphasizing the need for a safe and peaceful learning environment.
In a show of solidarity, the French Embassy in Manila also condemned the attack, describing it as “despicable.” They expressed their condolences to the families of the victims and assured the Filipino people of their unwavering support in the face of terrorism.
Several senators, including Senate President Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri, Senators Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, Maria Josefa Imelda “Imee” Marcos, Sherwin Gatchalian, and Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr., have called on law enforcement agencies to swiftly bring the perpetrators of this heinous act to justice.
Senate President Zubiri expressed his outrage, stating, “To enact such violence on an innocent group of people gathered to hear mass is completely heartless.” He further emphasized the need for both learning institutions and places of worship to be safe and secure, where individuals can feel a sense of peace and security.
Senator dela Rosa, in a text message, condemned the act and highlighted the harmonious relationship between Muslim and Christian students at MSU. He stated, “Peace, love, and respect are the norms of the day between Muslim and Christian students in MSU before and even after this horrific incident. I am sure the ones responsible are not Muslims nor Christians; they are terrorists.”
The bombing at MSU has shocked the nation, as it targeted a university known for its diverse student body and commitment to education. MSU has been a symbol of unity and cultural understanding, fostering an environment where students from different backgrounds come together to learn and grow.
This act of violence not only disrupts the lives of the victims and their families but also threatens the values of peace and tolerance that the Philippines upholds. It is crucial for the authorities to act swiftly and bring those responsible to justice to ensure the safety and security of students and citizens alike.
As the international community mourns with the Philippines, it is a stark reminder that violence knows no boundaries. It is a global challenge that requires cooperation and unity to overcome. The European Ambassador’s condemnation serves as a testament to the shared commitment of nations in fighting against terrorism and promoting peace.
Let us stand together in solidarity with the people of the Philippines, offering our condolences to the families affected by this tragic event. May justice prevail, and may MSU and other educational institutions continue to be safe spaces where students can pursue their dreams without fear.
