The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has taken swift action against four immigration lawyers who were allegedly involved in a visa scam. These lawyers, who were assigned to the agency’s visa section, have been dismissed by BI chief Norman Tansingco. The lawyers are accused of facilitating the issuance of working visas for foreigners recommended by fake companies.

BI spokesman Dana Sandoval stated that if it is determined that these lawyers were indeed involved in the visa scam, charges will be filed against them. This decisive action by the BI demonstrates their commitment to upholding the integrity of the visa application process and ensuring that only deserving individuals are granted the necessary permits to work in the Philippines.

To further investigate the visa scam, Tansingco established a fact-finding team. This team will delve deeper into the matter to uncover any additional individuals or entities involved in this fraudulent activity. By thoroughly investigating the issue, the BI aims to prevent such scams from occurring in the future and protect the interests of both the country and its citizens.

It is worth noting that last year, the BI blacklisted 459 foreigners who were found to have used fake companies in their 9(g) visa applications. The 9(g) pre-arranged employment visa is a requirement for foreign nationals who wish to work in the Philippines. This highlights the seriousness with which the BI regards cases of visa fraud and the measures they are willing to take to ensure the integrity of the immigration system.

During the initial stages of the investigation, suspicions were raised about the involvement of approximately 40 travel agencies and liaison officers in the visa scam. Additionally, a total of 116 employers were reported to the Secretary of Justice as being fake. These findings indicate the extent to which this fraudulent scheme had infiltrated various sectors and underscore the need for a thorough examination of the entire process.

The BI’s swift response to this visa scam sends a strong message that such illegal activities will not be tolerated. By taking action against those involved, the BI aims to deter others from engaging in similar fraudulent practices. This proactive approach demonstrates the agency’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of the immigration system and protecting the interests of the Philippines and its citizens.

In conclusion, the dismissal of four immigration lawyers involved in a visa scam is a clear indication of the Bureau of Immigration’s dedication to combating fraudulent activities in the visa application process. By taking decisive action and establishing a fact-finding team, the BI is sending a strong message that it will not tolerate any compromises to the integrity of the immigration system. Through these measures, the BI aims to protect the interests of the country and its citizens, ensuring that only deserving individuals are granted the necessary permits to work in the Philippines.
