The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has taken action against the driver of a Toyota Fortuner involved in a road rage incident at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone over the weekend. In response to the incident, the LTO has temporarily suspended the driver’s license. LTO chief Vigor Mendoza 2nd emphasized the seriousness of the situation, stating that such behavior is unacceptable for any responsible motorist.
The female driver has been summoned to appear before the LTO-Region 3, where she has been given a 90-day preventive suspension on her license. This step has been taken to ensure the safety of other road users and to address the issue at hand. The vehicle, with MV file number Z7N88, has also been placed on the alarm list of the LTO.
Mendoza stressed the importance of this case serving as a cautionary tale to all motorists. It highlights the potential consequences of allowing anger to escalate while driving. Road rage incidents can have serious implications, not only for the individuals involved but also for innocent bystanders. It is crucial for drivers to maintain composure and prioritize safety on the roads.
In the show cause order (SCO) issued by LTO-3 director Ronnie Montejo, it was revealed that the female motorist is a resident of Morong, Bataan, while the SUV she was driving is registered to a female resident of Makati City. Both the registered owner and the driver have been directed to submit a notarized explanation within seven days of receiving the SCO. They are also scheduled for a hearing on March 1.
Failure to file or submit the answer in a timely manner will be considered an admission of the allegations. The LTO is investigating whether the driver violated Section 27 of Republic Act 4136 (Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle). If found guilty, this violation may result in the cancellation of registration for the Toyota Fortuner.
The road rage incident occurred on February 17 along Binictican Road at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone. The driver of the Fortuner attempted to overtake a Hyundai Eon but was forced to suddenly stop. In a fit of anger, the SUV driver repeatedly reversed into the Eon, which was being driven by a senior citizen.
It is important for drivers to remember that road rage incidents can have severe consequences. Not only can they result in temporary license suspensions and potential cancellation of vehicle registration, but they can also lead to physical harm and even loss of life. It is crucial for all motorists to prioritize safety, exercise patience, and remain calm while on the road.
The LTO is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all road users. By taking swift action against those who engage in road rage, they are sending a clear message that such behavior will not be tolerated. It is hoped that this incident will serve as a reminder to all drivers to exercise restraint and respect for others while behind the wheel. Let us all strive to create a safer and more harmonious driving environment for everyone.
