The Southern Police District (SPD) has taken proactive measures to ensure the safety and security of the public during the holiday season with the activation of “Ligtas Paskuhan 2023.” With a total of 2,425 police officers and 925 force multipliers deployed, the SPD aims to secure common areas and maintain peace and order.

This year’s initiative includes the strategic deployment of 292 personnel in places of convergence and 98 at transport terminals. By positioning officers in these key areas, the SPD aims to deter any criminal activities and provide a visible police presence to reassure the public.

To further strengthen street-level vigilance, the SPD has assigned 450 beat patrollers and 83 tactical motorcycle rider units. These dedicated units will enhance the SPD’s efforts in maintaining law and order in the community.

With a focus on anti-criminality measures, 1,436 SPD personnel will be dedicated to preventing and addressing criminal activities. To support these efforts, a specialized Red Team comprising 66 members will work alongside the SPD. Continuous operations such as Oplan Galugad and proactive community engagement through barangay visitation are at the core of these strategies.

Recognizing the power of social media in disseminating information and mobilizing communities, the SPD will leverage various social media platforms. By using these platforms, the SPD aims to enhance awareness and cooperation among citizens, enabling them to actively participate in maintaining a safe environment.

SPD chief BGen. Mark Pespes emphasized the importance of intensifying simultaneous anti-criminality and law enforcement operations during the Yuletide season. This includes the establishment of law enforcement checkpoints in strategic locations and maximizing deployment in places of convergence.

Special operations will also be conducted around 95 churches within the SPD’s area of operation. Collaborations with local government units, barangays, and government agencies aim to secure sites with large gatherings, such as the Simbang Gabi. The SPD recognizes the potential risks in malls and other convergence spots, making them a priority in their security measures.

Efforts will focus on crime prevention through proactive measures, including the deployment of personnel in crime-prone areas. Additionally, a comprehensive public information campaign against indiscriminate firing and unsafe pyrotechnics will be conducted to raise awareness about the risks associated with these activities.

Collaboration with other law enforcement agencies and force multipliers will further augment security coverage. By working together, the SPD aims to ensure a peaceful and safe holiday season for everyone.

As the holiday season approaches, the Southern Police District is committed to providing a secure environment for the public. Through the activation of “Ligtas Paskuhan 2023” and the implementation of various strategies, the SPD aims to maintain peace and order, deter criminal activities, and create a sense of security during this festive time of the year.
