Navotas City, known for its commitment to the welfare of its citizens, has recently implemented a range of programs and services aimed at empowering its youth. Under the leadership of Mayor John Reynald Tiangco, the city has taken significant steps to provide educational opportunities and support to its young residents.

Mayor Tiangco recently announced the signing of a memorandum of agreement, marking the expansion of the “NavotaAs” Scholarship Program for the upcoming school year 2023-2024. This program will provide scholarships to 21 new beneficiaries, enabling them to pursue their educational aspirations. By investing in the education of its youth, Navotas City is laying the foundation for a brighter future.

In addition to the NavotaAs Scholarship Program, the city has also introduced the Ulirang Pamilyang Mangingisda Scholarship. This scholarship is specifically designed for family members of registered fishermen who have been recognized as the Top Ten Most Outstanding Fisherfolk. Six students have qualified for this prestigious scholarship, which aims to support and uplift the families of those involved in the fishing industry.

Recognizing the importance of the arts in fostering creativity and self-expression, Navotas City has also awarded scholarships to 15 student artists. These scholarships cover a wide range of artistic disciplines, including visual arts, music, dance, theater arts, and creative writing. By nurturing the talents of these young artists, the city is cultivating a vibrant and culturally rich community.

Navotas City is also committed to providing technical and vocational education to its residents. Recently, the city celebrated the graduation of 317 new graduates from the Navotas Vocational Training and Assessment (NavotaAs) Institute and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority-NavotaAs Training Institute. These graduates have acquired valuable skills that will enable them to contribute to the workforce and secure a better future for themselves and their families.

Furthermore, the city government has made significant investments in improving the learning environment in public schools. To enhance the educational experience of students, Navotas City has distributed 40 smart TV sets, 287 wall fans, and 287 ceiling fans to public elementary and high schools. This initiative aims to create a conducive learning environment that promotes student engagement and academic success.

Among the schools that have benefited from these improvements are North Bay Boulevard North Elementary School, San Roque Elementary School, and Tanza Elementary School. By equipping these schools with modern technology and comfortable facilities, Navotas City is ensuring that students have access to the resources they need to thrive academically.

In collaboration with the Schools Division Office-Navotas, the NavotaAs Hanapbuhay Center has also launched the One School, One Product Program (OSOP). This innovative program provides Senior High School students with the opportunity to develop entrepreneurship skills and earn an income by creating a marketable product that showcases the city’s local resources. The products developed by the participating schools will be showcased in this year’s Christmas Bazaar at the Navotas Citywalk and Amphitheater from December 1-2 and 7-9.

Mayor Tiangco emphasized the city’s unwavering commitment to education, stating, “Education remains one of our top priorities. We are dedicated to providing Navoteño students with the highest quality of education and opening doors of opportunity for them to have a bright and successful future.”

Through its various programs and initiatives, Navotas City is empowering its youth, equipping them with the necessary tools and opportunities to thrive in a rapidly changing world. By investing in education, arts, vocational training, and entrepreneurship, the city is shaping a generation of capable and empowered individuals who will contribute to the growth and development of their community.
