Actor Tirso Cruz 3rd Resigns as Chairman of FDCP
Veteran actor Tirso Cruz 3rd has expressed his gratitude to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for the opportunity to serve and give back to the Philippine film industry. In a recent statement, Cruz announced his resignation as Chairman of the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) and stated that he would now return to his career as an actor.
While Cruz did not disclose the specific reason for vacating his post, he cited “personal reasons” as the cause. However, he took the opportunity to highlight the achievements made by the FDCP during his 19 months of tenure. These accomplishments include increased financial support for stakeholders and partnerships to promote Philippine cinema globally.
Under Cruz’s leadership, the FDCP managed to enhance financial support for various stakeholders in the film industry, including producers, directors, film workers, and students. Additionally, the council facilitated partnerships with film exhibitors, institutions, festivals, and embassies to showcase Philippine cinema to a global audience and encourage local audiences to return to cinemas.
Cruz expressed his gratitude to Marie Louise “Liza” Araneta Marcos and all the members of the FDCP for their support throughout his tenure. He acknowledged the contributions of the council members, efficient employees of the FDCP, consultants, legislators, and local and national government officials.
Although he is stepping down as Chairman, Cruz emphasized that he will continue to support the Philippine film industry as an actor and as a private citizen. He concluded his statement by saying, “Mabuhay ang pelikulang Pilipino!” (Long live Philippine cinema!)
FDCP Thanks Cruz for His Service
The FDCP expressed its gratitude to Cruz for his service and stated that it supports his decision to pursue his passion for excellence in his chosen craft. The council recognized Cruz’s remarkable contributions to the Philippine film industry and assured that it will continue to implement its activities and existing programs to support the industry.
Following Cruz’s resignation, the FDCP’s Board of Trustees has appointed Rica Arevalo as the Officer-In-Charge (OIC) until President Marcos appoints a new Chairman and CEO. Filmmaker Jose Javier “Joey” Reyes will remain as the FDCP’s technical consultant.
The FDCP shared photos of Cruz gathering members of the council for a general assembly on March 11 to announce his resignation. In his statement, Cruz emphasized that he is no longer the Chairman of the FDCP and is now solely focused on his career as an actor.
While the specific reasons behind Cruz’s resignation remain undisclosed, his decision marks a significant transition for the FDCP. As the council moves forward under new leadership, the Philippine film industry can anticipate continued support and initiatives to further promote and develop the local cinema scene.
