In a heartwarming display of solidarity and patriotism, the Atin Ito! Coalition initiated the Christmas Convoy Civilian Supply Mission, which aims to bring joy and support to the islands in the West Philippine Sea. Led by the flagship vessel, M/V Kapitan Felix Oca, owned by the Associated Marine Officers and Seamen’s Union of the Philippines (AMOSUP), a group of 40 civilian vessels embarked on a gift-giving mission to various islands including Ayungin Shoal, Lawak, Likas, Patag, Fil, Parola, Rizal, and Kota.

Onboard the M/V Kapitan Felix Oca are volunteers, student leaders, fisherfolk representatives, and members of the press, all eager to contribute to this meaningful cause. Ship captain Jorge Dela Cruz shared, “This vessel has always been used in the past for relief operations.” Prior to departure from Manila, approximately 40 volunteers boarded the ship, while the rest joined in San Fernando, El Nido, Palawan.

The M/V Kapitan Felix Oca, a 5,000-ton, 114-meter ship, has been serving as a training ship for cadets of the Bataan-based Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific (MAAP) since 1997. With its spacious accommodations, it can comfortably host up to 180 passengers. However, this time, instead of cadets, the ship is filled with goodwill and supplies.

The convoy is loaded with various donations, including food packs, canned goods, rice, hygiene kits, electronic gadgets, solar lamps, and toys. These essential items will undoubtedly bring much-needed relief and happiness to the island communities in the West Philippine Sea.

Vice Admiral Eduardo Ma Santos, president of MAAP, expressed his honor in joining this mission, stating, “We are honored to join this mission to support our uniformed men in our island outposts and bring cheer this Christmas season.” The presence of the MAAP further emphasizes the importance of solidarity and cooperation in times of need.

Ensuring the safety and security of the convoy, Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Commandant Admiral Ronnie Gil L. Gavan directed the Coast Guard District Palawan to oversee the operation. With their expertise and dedication, the PCG will ensure a smooth and secure journey for all the boats involved in this noble mission.

As the convoy sails toward the West Philippine Sea, it symbolizes the unity and compassion of the Filipino people. The Christmas Convoy Civilian Supply Mission serves as a reminder that, despite any challenges or disputes, the spirit of giving and support prevails. Through this mission, the volunteers aim to bring hope, joy, and a sense of togetherness to the island communities, fostering a stronger bond among all Filipinos.

Let us celebrate this act of kindness and extend our gratitude to all the volunteers, organizations, and individuals who have come together to make this mission possible. Their efforts embody the true essence of the holiday season, reminding us all of the power we hold when we unite for a common cause.
