Senator Christopher “Bong” Go has called on the Department of Health (DoH) to ensure the proper use of funds allocated for the construction of more super health centers (SHCs) across the country. In a statement, the senator commended the continued expansion of SHCs and emphasized the need for efficient utilization of funds, particularly in remote areas.
The senator, who chairs the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, highlighted that the creation of 132 additional SHCs is funded under the 2024 national budget. This number adds to the 307 and 322 SHCs already funded in the 2022 and 2023 national budgets, respectively.
“I will continue to support the establishment of more super health centers nationwide,” Senator Go affirmed. He reminded the DoH that he had advocated for the allocation of additional funds for SHCs, expressing his hope that the implementation would be prompt and effective, benefiting the underserved communities. “This is for them,” he added.
Senator Go emphasized the crucial role SHCs play in providing primary health care, medical consultations, and early disease detection at the grassroots level. By fortifying the country’s healthcare infrastructure, these centers contribute significantly to the overall well-being of the population.
The responsibility of identifying strategic locations for these centers and ensuring that they meet the specific needs of the community lies with the DoH. Senator Go acknowledged the efforts of the agency in bringing healthcare closer to Filipinos in need, particularly at the community level. He further explained that SHCs help reduce hospital occupancy and provide accessible medical services to the grassroots.
Super health centers offer a comprehensive range of services to address various healthcare needs. These services include database management, outpatient care, birthing facilities, isolation wards, and diagnostics such as X-rays and ultrasounds. Additionally, SHCs provide pharmacy services, ambulatory surgical units, and specialized care in areas such as EENT (eyes, ears, nose, and throat), oncology, physical therapy, rehabilitation, and telemedicine.
Senator Go’s call for the efficient use of funds for SHCs underscores the importance of ensuring that resources are maximized to benefit the underserved communities, especially in remote areas. By prioritizing the proper allocation of funds, the DoH can effectively address the healthcare needs of Filipinos and bring essential medical services closer to those who need them the most.
In conclusion, Senator Go’s advocacy for the construction and expansion of super health centers nationwide highlights his commitment to improving healthcare accessibility for all Filipinos. By urging the DoH to ensure the efficient use of funds, he aims to maximize the impact of these centers in providing quality healthcare services to underserved communities. The continued efforts to strengthen the country’s healthcare infrastructure through the establishment of SHCs demonstrate a steadfast commitment to the well-being of the Filipino people.
