MANILA, Philippines: The Black Nazarene procession, also known as Traslacion, is an annual religious event in the Philippines that attracts millions of devotees from all over the country. This year, the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) played a crucial role in providing medical assistance to the participants.

Since the start of the Traslacion early Tuesday, the PRC has attended to 180 patients with various health concerns. With the safety and well-being of the devotees as their top priority, the PRC deployed 12 ambulances and a fire truck, ensuring quick response to any medical emergencies that may arise during the event.

To further enhance their medical support, the PRC set up 10 first aid stations and eight welfare desks strategically placed along the procession route. These stations serve as accessible points for devotees to seek medical attention or assistance. Additionally, the PRC established an emergency field hospital equipped to handle more serious cases that may require immediate medical attention.

Recognizing the importance of nourishment during such physically demanding events, the PRC also deployed a food truck to provide nourishing meals to the devotees. This initiative aims to ensure that participants have the energy and stamina to endure the long hours of the procession.

The PRC’s efforts are made possible by the dedication and commitment of its 316 active volunteers who tirelessly work on the ground. These volunteers undergo extensive training to provide efficient and effective medical aid to those in need. Their presence and expertise greatly contribute to the smooth and safe conduct of the Traslacion.

As of 8 a.m., the majority of the patients treated by the PRC have experienced dizzy spells. This is not uncommon during large gatherings, especially when participants are exposed to extreme heat and crowded conditions. The PRC’s swift response and provision of immediate medical assistance have helped alleviate the discomfort and ensure the well-being of the devotees.

It is worth noting that the PRC’s involvement in the Traslacion is just one of the many ways they actively contribute to the welfare of the Filipino people. The organization is known for its humanitarian efforts, providing assistance in times of disaster and supporting vulnerable communities.

In conclusion, the Philippine Red Cross plays a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of the devotees during the Black Nazarene procession. Through their deployment of ambulances, establishment of first aid stations, and provision of medical assistance, the PRC demonstrates their commitment to serving the community. Their presence and expertise provide a sense of security to the participants, allowing them to express their devotion without worrying about their health. The PRC’s efforts are a testament to their dedication to the Filipino people and their mission to alleviate human suffering.
