MANILA, Philippines: The National Federation of Hog Farmers, Inc. (NatFed) has announced its ambitious goal of setting a Guinness Record for the most number of pork dishes on display and to be served afterwards. This attempt will serve as a kick-off event for the Pig Day Celebration, taking place from March 1 to 5.
Vice Chairman Alfred Ng, in a press briefing with Quezon City government officials, shared that the festival will span three days at Novotel Hotel and Gateway Mall, both located in Araneta City, Cubao. The culminating event will be held at the Marikina Convention Center.
Ng emphasized that the primary objective of the National Federation of Hog Farmers is to promote the interests of the local agricultural sector, with a focus on food security, food safety, and food sovereignty. By organizing the hog festival, they also hope to boost the country’s tourism industry by showcasing the rich culinary tradition of serving pork dishes.
The hog producers are confident that the festival and the Guinness attempt will provide an opportunity to establish connections and network with institutional markets, such as restaurants and hotels. This, in turn, will help reduce their dependence on imported pork.
NatFed’s initiative also aims to promote Quezon City and other areas as food tourism destinations, highlighting the sumptuous and unique local pork dishes they have to offer.
The Philippines has a deep-rooted love for pork dishes, with various recipes and cooking styles that reflect the country’s diverse culinary heritage. From the famous lechon (roast pig) to sinigang (sour soup) and adobo (marinated meat), Filipino cuisine has gained recognition globally for its bold flavors and unique combinations.
By setting a Guinness Record for the most number of pork dishes, the National Federation of Hog Farmers hopes to create a platform to showcase the creativity and culinary expertise of local chefs and food enthusiasts. This event will not only celebrate the love for pork but also highlight the importance of supporting local farmers and promoting sustainable farming practices.
Furthermore, the festival serves as an opportunity for the public to learn more about the hog farming industry and the efforts being made to ensure the quality and safety of pork products. With food security and food safety becoming increasingly important concerns, events like this provide a platform for education and awareness.
As the festival takes place in different venues across the city, visitors will have the chance to explore the vibrant culinary scene of Quezon City. From small eateries serving traditional pork dishes to high-end restaurants offering innovative and modern interpretations, there is something for everyone’s taste.
Additionally, the festival will feature cooking demonstrations, workshops, and competitions, allowing attendees to learn new recipes and techniques from renowned chefs. It will be a celebration of Filipino cuisine and a testament to the passion and dedication of the hog farming community in promoting their products and the local food culture.
Through this Guinness Record attempt, the National Federation of Hog Farmers aims to put the Philippines on the map as a global culinary destination.
