In a recent press conference, Senator Maria Josefa Imelda “Imee” Marcos addressed the state of the UniTeam party, headed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Vice President Sara Duterte. While acknowledging the presence of “cracks” within the party, Senator Marcos emphasized that the country’s top two leaders remain on good terms.

The UniTeam party, formed for the 2022 presidential elections, brought together the Marcos and Duterte families under a common banner. However, Senator Marcos suggested that the issues lie with individuals on the sidelines rather than the principals themselves. She referred to these individuals as “demons and snakes on the fringes of the Palace.”

In a Facebook post on January 29, Vice President Duterte defended her brother, Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte, for criticizing the President. She described his statements as an expression of “brotherly love” and a response to the mistreatment she has received from certain sectors within the President’s circle.

When asked about the ongoing feud between her brother and former President Rodrigo Duterte, Senator Marcos refused to take sides. She expressed her love for both parties and her desire to protect the family’s reputation. Senator Marcos stated, “Why should I be required to make a choice? I love them all, and I don’t want anything that will tarnish our name.”

Regarding the change in attitude between the former President and the current President, Senator Marcos simply stated, “It’s OK.” She reassured the public that the UniTeam principals are still in good standing and capable of working together, as long as external forces do not interfere negatively.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. himself confirmed in an interview that nothing has changed between him and Vice President Sara Duterte. This statement aligns with Senator Marcos’ assertion that the top two leaders are still able to collaborate effectively.

In a separate incident, Senator Marcos revealed that Mayor Duterte had personally apologized to her for demanding her brother’s resignation due to laziness. She described the encounter, stating that Mayor Duterte was emotional and apologetic. Senator Marcos understood his emotions, considering the possibility of their father being jailed and the alleged mistreatment of their eldest sister.

There have been reports suggesting that the International Criminal Court (ICC) may issue a warrant of arrest against former President Rodrigo Duterte for human rights violations related to his drug war. However, Senator Marcos declined to comment on these allegations. She made it clear that she has nothing to do with the matter and believes it is up to the individuals involved to handle it.

Former President Duterte’s accusation that President Marcos is a “drug addict” was denied by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency. The agency stated that President Marcos was never on their list of drug offenders.

In conclusion, while cracks may exist within the UniTeam party, Senator Marcos assures the public that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Vice President Sara Duterte are still on good terms. She believes that as long as external interference is minimized, the top two leaders can continue to work together effectively. Despite the ongoing feuds within the party, Senator Marcos remains neutral and focused on protecting the family’s reputation.
