MANILA, Philippines: In a bid to address the worsening traffic situation in the country, the Civil Service Commission (CSC) has called on government agencies in Metro Manila to adopt flexible work arrangements (FWAs). This move comes as part of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority’s efforts to alleviate the traffic congestion in the area.

CSC Chairman Karlo Nograles emphasized the importance of implementing policies on FWAs to provide civil servants with adaptable and responsive work schemes. These initiatives aim to promote efficient and effective performance despite disruptive situations, such as the prevalent traffic conditions in the metro.

Metro Manila is home to the largest number of government workers in the country, with 440,009 individuals comprising 22.30 percent of the career and non-career personnel. Last year, Metro Manila topped the Tomtom Traffic Index list as the metro area with the worst traffic. Commuters experienced an average travel time of 25 minutes and 30 seconds for every 10 kilometers.
