MANILA, Philippines: President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has received praise from a lawmaker for his role in driving the country’s economy and achieving a significant increase in the employment rate, which has reached its highest level in 18 years.
According to the 2023 Labor Force Survey conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, the employment rate in October soared to an impressive 95.8 percent, while the unemployment rate dropped to 4.2 percent.
Bulacan 6th District Representative Salvador Pleyto expressed his admiration for President Marcos’ policies, which have ensured that the benefits of economic growth under his administration are shared with millions of Filipinos.
“It is truly a cause for celebration to see our employment rate reach 95.8 percent, the highest in 18 years, surpassing the previous record set in April 2005,” said Pleyto, who is also a member of the House Committee on Agriculture and Food.
Pleyto emphasized the importance of job figures as a key economic indicator, stating that significant economic growth can only be achieved if there are ample job opportunities available.
Furthermore, he highlighted that a high employment rate would encourage overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to return home and explore opportunities within the country.
“We must ensure that there are sufficient job opportunities for new graduates and OFWs who are eager to contribute their newfound knowledge and skills to their own country,” Pleyto explained.
However, Pleyto cautioned against premature celebration, acknowledging that there are still challenges ahead for the administration.
He emphasized that the government’s economic agenda should prioritize job creation in order to foster a culture of industry and knowledge (“sipag at talino”) among Filipino workers.
“In line with this, the role of our education system and manpower development is crucial. We firmly believe that investing in the creation of a national talent pool will generate more opportunities for everyone,” Pleyto stated.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s efforts in driving the economy and achieving a record-high employment rate have been recognized and commended by Representative Salvador Pleyto. The significant increase in job opportunities not only demonstrates the success of President Marcos’ policies but also holds the potential to attract overseas Filipino workers back to their home country. However, Pleyto reminds us that there are still challenges ahead, and the government must prioritize job creation to foster a culture of industry and knowledge among Filipino workers. By investing in education and manpower development, the nation can create a robust talent pool that will pave the way for even more opportunities in the future.
