Camarines Sur Representative Urges Public and Private Sectors to Embrace Work-From-Home Setup
Camarines Sur 2nd District Representative, Luis Raymund Villafuerte Jr., is calling on both the public and private sectors to consider implementing a work-from-home (WFH) setup whenever possible. This move aims to protect workers from the adverse effects of extreme heat. With rising temperatures predicted by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), reaching potentially dangerous levels of 52 degrees Celsius or higher, it is crucial for employers to prioritize the well-being of their employees.
Villafuerte highlights the Telecommuting Act of 2018, also known as Republic Act (RA) 11165, which he co-authored. This legislation enables private sector employers to adopt WFH arrangements for their employees using telecommunications and computer technologies. Instead of requiring workers to report to their respective offices daily, this law allows for remote work options. Furthermore, WFH arrangements are also permitted in government agencies for civil servants, as outlined in the Civil Service Commission (CSC) Memorandum Circular (MC) 6, dated June 6, 2022.
