President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has called on Filipinos to draw inspiration from the heroism of revolutionary hero Andres Bonifacio, who dedicated his life to fighting for his countrymen and the Philippines. In a message delivered during the commemoration of Bonifacio’s 160th birth anniversary, President Marcos emphasized that he sees a modern-day Bonifacio in every Filipino, including nurses, doctors, teachers, police, military personnel, and overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

“Andres Bonifacio was an ordinary Filipino who dreamed and fearlessly exhibited bravery, stability, and leadership during a time of great need. This is why we commemorate him and others who sacrificed their lives for the nation,” President Marcos expressed through Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin.

President Marcos highlighted the significance of Bonifacio’s spirit, stating that Filipinos can serve as a “light of hope and inspiration” for their countrymen, just like Bonifacio did. He emphasized that the Filipino people are not only called to sacrifice their lives for the motherland, but also to showcase their skills, talents, courage, and time to become beacons of hope and inspiration for their fellow citizens.

“In the spirit of Mr. Andres Bonifacio, we pay tribute to him and other citizens who sacrificed their lives for the country. We are called not only to sacrifice but also to show our dedication and passion for our country, so that every step we take becomes a symbol of hope and inspiration,” President Marcos stated.

President Marcos expressed his gratitude and admiration for the contributions of Filipino nurses, doctors, teachers, police, the military, and OFWs, acknowledging that they play a vital role in the progress of the nation. He encouraged them to continue the legacy started by Bonifacio and ensure that the true and pure love for the country is passed on to future generations.

Andres Bonifacio co-founded the Kataas-taasan, Kagalang-galangang Katipunan ng mga Anak ng Bayan (KKK) in 1892, with the aim of liberating the Philippines from Spanish colonial rule. It was through the KKK’s initiative that the Philippine Revolution began, ultimately leading to the country’s independence from Spain in 1898.

The commemoration of Bonifacio’s birth anniversary serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by those who fought for the nation’s freedom. President Marcos’ call to emulate Bonifacio’s heroism resonates with Filipinos, urging them to contribute to the progress and development of the Philippines in their respective fields.

By recognizing the heroism of Bonifacio and the contributions of modern-day heroes, President Marcos seeks to inspire a sense of unity and national pride among Filipinos. He believes that by embodying the spirit of Bonifacio, every Filipino has the power to make a positive impact on society and bring about meaningful change.

The legacy of Andres Bonifacio continues to inspire generations, reminding Filipinos of the importance of courage, determination, and love for country. As the nation moves forward, President Marcos encourages all Filipinos to honor the sacrifices of the past and work together towards a brighter future.
