The Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) chief, Persida Rueda-Acosta, has expressed her gratitude and flattery upon learning that she is one of the top picks for the 2025 Senate race, according to the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey. In an interview with The Manila Times, Rueda-Acosta shared her surprise and honor at obtaining a 47 percent trust rating from 82 percent of Filipinos who were aware of her.
Conducted from December 8 to 11, 2023, the survey involved face-to-face interviews with 1,200 respondents nationwide. Rueda-Acosta secured a spot in the top 10 list of Senate “winnables” for the 2025 midterm polls. Additionally, she ranked sixth among the 44 names in the survey for the National Capital Region, as reported by SWS Vice President Gerardo Sandoval.
“I am so pleased and honored by the people’s continued trust in me,” said Rueda-Acosta. However, she has yet to confirm if she will accept the challenge of running for a Senate post. Currently, her focus remains on her job as the chief public attorney, especially with the increasing number of indigent Filipinos who rely on PAO for justice.
Rueda-Acosta expressed her dedication to serving the people and emphasized the importance of addressing the needs of the poor. She stated, “Let us see where my destiny will bring me, but for now, I must focus on my job as the chief public attorney. We still have more to do, especially for our poor kababayan (countrymen).”
The SWS survey also provided insights into Rueda-Acosta’s trust rating across different socio-demographic groups. Her awareness ranged from 69 percent to 98 percent in December 2023. In terms of geographical areas, her net trust rating was good at 42 in the National Capital Region, 30 in the Visayas, and moderate at 17 in Mindanao.
