President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has reaffirmed his unwavering support for the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in the face of persistent rumors regarding a potential destabilization plot against his administration. During a New Year’s call at Malacañang, the President met with AFP chief Romeo Brawner Jr., PNP chief Benjamin Acorda, and other high-ranking police and military officials to express his commitment.
In a statement shared on his social media accounts, President Marcos emphasized his dedication to the well-being of the uniformed personnel and their families. This commitment is reflected in the increased 2024 budget allocated to the Department of National Defense (DND). The government’s support for the Revised AFP Modernization Program and the Pension and Gratuity Fund further demonstrates its commitment to ensuring financial stability for both military and civilian personnel.
President Marcos stated, “Beyond duty, we prioritize their daily lives. I have approved a specific budget for rice subsidies and Tertiary Health Care at the AFP Medical Center for advanced medical services and overall wellness support.” These measures aim to provide essential support to the men and women serving in the armed forces.
During the courtesy call, security officials, including Presidential Adviser on Military and Police Affairs Secretary Roman Felix, also visited the President to discuss matters related to national security. The presence of PNP Acting Deputy Chief for Administration Rhodel Sermonia, PNP Acting Deputy Chief for Operations Michael John Dubria, PNP Chief of Directorial Staff Emmanuel Peralta, Philippine Navy Flag Officer in Command Vice Admiral Toribio Adaci Jr., Philippine Army Commanding General Roy Galido, and Philippine Air Force Commanding General Stephen Parreño highlighted the collaborative efforts between the AFP and the PNP.
Both the AFP and the PNP have consistently refuted the rumors surrounding a destabilization plot against the Marcos administration. AFP spokesman Medel Aguilar firmly stated in an earlier radio interview, “There is no discussion for a destabilization plot in the AFP. We can assure the public that we are solid and united. And we’ll focus on our mission. Don’t drag us into such issues because it will not be good for our country.”
Similarly, the PNP dismissed reports of a destabilization plot, emphasizing their close coordination with the AFP to address any concerns. PNP spokesman Jean Fajardo stated during a public briefing, “We have not monitored any destabilization plots like what we have been hearing lately. We are closely coordinating with our counterparts, particularly the Armed Forces of the Philippines, and we are ready to address these issues in case we reach that point.”
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s commitment to supporting the PNP and the AFP is evident in his dedication to their well-being, as well as the financial stability initiatives implemented by the government. The collaborative efforts between security officials highlight the united front in addressing these rumors and maintaining stability within the country. As the administration remains focused on its mission, the public can trust in the unwavering commitment of the Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines to safeguard the nation’s security and uphold the principles of peace and order.
