In a recent video posted on his official Facebook page, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. praised the bravery and heroism of six Philippine Army soldiers who lost their lives in separate clashes against Muslim extremists in Lanao del Norte on February 18. The soldiers were part of pursuit operations targeting members of the Dawlah Islamiyah, who were suspected to be responsible for the bombing at Mindanao State University (MSU) in December.
The fallen soldiers were identified as Corporals Rey Anthony Salvador, Reland Tapinit, and Rodel Mobida, as well as Privates First Class Arnel Tornito, Michael John Lumingkit, and James Porras. Additionally, four soldiers, including Cpl. Jaymark Remotigue, Pfc. Marvien Aguipo, and Privates Amiril Sakinal and Nazareno Provido, sustained injuries during the encounters.
The clashes occurred in Barangay Ramain, Munai town in Lanao del Norte, where the soldiers, along with two other Scout Ranger units, were conducting pursuit operations against the suspects involved in the December 3 bombing. During the clashes, three extremists were also killed, according to the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
President Marcos expressed his deepest sympathies to the families of the fallen soldiers, emphasizing their sacrifice in protecting the nation from terrorists. He assured the public that the government, under his leadership, would relentlessly pursue the enemies of peace.
“We will never forget their greatness and heroism,” President Marcos stated. “We will continue what they fought for and bring the enemies of peace to justice. To their families, loved ones, and the entire Filipino nation, we promise that this government will always remember the sacrifice they made.”
House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez also acknowledged the sacrifices made by the soldiers and announced that the families of the deceased and injured soldiers would receive government aid, as per the President’s instructions.
“We acknowledge the great sacrifice of our soldiers to ensure our safety and freedom. It is only right that we support them and their loved ones in their time of need,” Speaker Romualdez affirmed.
The clashes in Lanao del Norte serve as a poignant reminder of the ongoing threats faced by the Philippines in its fight against terrorism. The dedication and valor displayed by the Philippine Army soldiers are a testament to their commitment to safeguarding the nation and its citizens.
As the government continues to pursue the enemies of peace, it is crucial for the Filipino nation to stand united in supporting the military and honoring the sacrifices made by these brave soldiers. Their heroism serves as an inspiration to all, reminding us of the importance of remaining vigilant in the face of adversity.
Let us remember the fallen soldiers and express our gratitude to all those who risk their lives to protect our country. Together, we can build a safer and more peaceful Philippines for future generations.
