MANILA, Philippines: President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has tested positive for Covid-19, Malacañang confirmed early Tuesday.
Presidential Communications Secretary Cheloy Garafil stated that Marcos will be in isolation for five days but will continue to conduct online meetings.
“President Bongbong Marcos has tested positive for Covid-19. Upon medical advice, he will observe a period of isolation for five days,” Garafil said in a statement.
“The President remains fit to carry out his duties and will be continuing his scheduled meetings via teleconference,” she added.
The Palace official also assured that updates on his health will be provided as they become available.
“During this holiday season, President Marcos encourages the public to take precautions to safeguard their health, such as getting vaccinated and voluntarily wearing masks when entering crowded places,” Garafil emphasized.
This is the third time the President has contracted Covid-19. His most recent positive test result was in July 2020.
His first battle with Covid-19 was in March 2020 during the height of the pandemic.
