President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. expressed his deep appreciation for the bravery and sacrifice of soldiers who were wounded in a recent clash with members of the Dawlah Islamiya-Maute Group (DI-MG). In a ceremony held on Monday, he awarded the Gold Cross Medal, Military Merit Medal with Bronze Spearhead Device, and Wounded Personnel Medal to four of the soldiers.
Accompanied by Special Assistant to the President Antonio Lagdameo, Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr., Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr., and Army Chief Lt. Gen. Roy Galido, President Marcos personally handed financial assistance to the 12 soldiers currently undergoing treatment at the Army General Hospital (AGH).
These soldiers were part of the 3rd Scout Ranger Battalion deployed in Barangay Tapurong, Piagapo, Lanao del Sur last month. Their operation resulted in the arrest of nine DI-MG fighters, including those suspected to be responsible for the bombing at the Mindanao State University on December 3, 2023.
President Marcos commended the soldiers for their courage and unwavering dedication to protecting the Filipino people from groups that pose a threat to the country’s security. He assured them that his administration will continue to implement programs that provide assistance to battle casualties and promote the welfare of AFP personnel and their families.
Furthermore, President Marcos pledged to promptly address the request from the AGH and the Camp Evangelista Station Hospital for additional equipment to enhance their capacity to cater to the medical needs of the soldiers. He emphasized that the government’s commitment to their advancement and welfare extends beyond the provision of modern equipment alone.
The recognition of these wounded soldiers highlights the valor and resilience displayed by the men and women in uniform who put their lives on the line to safeguard the nation. Their dedication deserves the utmost respect and support from the government and the entire Filipino community.
It is crucial to acknowledge the sacrifices made by these soldiers, as their efforts contribute to maintaining peace and security in the region. The clash with the DI-MG serves as a reminder of the ongoing threat posed by extremist groups and the need for a strong and well-equipped military to counter such threats effectively.
President Marcos’s recognition and financial assistance not only demonstrate his gratitude but also signify the government’s commitment to supporting the brave men and women who defend the country. By honoring their heroism, the President sends a powerful message of unity and solidarity, bolstering the morale of the armed forces and inspiring others to serve their nation selflessly.
The international community should also take note of the significant role played by the Philippine military in combating terrorism. This recognition event serves as a testament to the country’s determination to protect its citizens and uphold peace and stability in the region.
In conclusion, President Marcos’s recognition of the wounded soldiers and his commitment to their welfare and advancement exemplify the government’s unwavering support for the armed forces. The bravery and sacrifice of these soldiers deserve our utmost respect and appreciation. By honoring their heroism, we acknowledge the vital role they play in safeguarding our nation’s security and promoting peace in the region.
