Senator Christopher “Bong” Go has been a strong advocate for inclusive socioeconomic and infrastructure development in Mindanao. During the recent Board of Directors meeting of the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) held on February 16 in Davao City, the senator emphasized the importance of initiatives that promote the growth and progress of the region.
As an ex-officio member representing the Senate, Senator Go expressed his full support for MinDA’s efforts in driving sustainable and inclusive development in Mindanao. He highlighted the significant role played by MinDA in the region’s development, particularly through the Mindanao Development Corridors Joint Planning and Programming Session for Roads, Bridges, and Flood Control. This initiative aims to improve transportation infrastructure and enhance flood control measures in Mindanao.
In addition to infrastructure development, Senator Go also commended MinDA’s comprehensive Mindanao Peace and Development Program. This program aims to address the socio-economic challenges faced by Mindanao, promoting peace and prosperity for its residents.
One notable project that Senator Go praised is the VolunTurismo Project. This project aims to revitalize Dinagat and Siargao Islands, two popular tourist destinations in Mindanao. By promoting tourism and hospitality sectors in these areas, the project aims to generate employment opportunities and boost the local economy. Senator Go proudly announced that he, together with fellow Mindanaoan Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, secured additional budget for MinDA in 2024. This funding will be allocated towards the agency’s digitalization efforts and the Strengthening of the Indigenous Peoples in Mindanao (STIP-Mindanao) Program.
Senator Go emphasized, “We also pushed for the inclusion of a budget for Strengthening the Indigenous Peoples in Mindanao Program.” This program aims to uplift the lives of indigenous communities in Mindanao, ensuring that they are included in the region’s development plans and initiatives.
It is worth mentioning that Senator Go co-sponsored and was one of the authors of Republic Act 11708, which created the Metropolitan Davao Development Authority. This agency was established to address the growing needs of Davao City and nearby areas. The senator’s involvement in this legislation demonstrates his commitment to addressing the specific needs of local communities and promoting their overall development.
Senator Bong Go’s advocacy for inclusive socioeconomic and infrastructure development in Mindanao reflects his dedication to improving the lives of the people in the region. Through his support for MinDA’s initiatives and his efforts to secure additional funding, he aims to drive sustainable growth and prosperity for Mindanao. With his active involvement in legislation and commitment to local communities, Senator Go continues to be a champion for inclusive development in the region.
