Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go has been a staunch advocate for programs that benefit the poor, especially in light of the ongoing global pandemic. In his address before the 95th National Assembly of the League of Vice Governors of the Philippines (LVGP) on Saturday, November 25, Go emphasized the urgency of implementing measures that would efficiently aid Filipinos in their recovery process.
Go acknowledged the diverse titles held by the attendees of the assembly, recognizing them as superstars in their respective provinces, chosen and loved by the people. He emphasized the collective responsibility of public service, transcending individual positions, and underlining the commitment to the welfare and progress of the nation.
As public servants, Go reminded the audience that the essence of their service lies not in the titles they hold but in the positive impact they make on the lives of the people they represent. Their duty is to foster an environment conducive to growth, equality, and prosperity for all.
Go rallied for a united front in prioritizing initiatives that cater to the needs of marginalized sectors. He reaffirmed his commitment to pushing for pro-poor programs that address the needs of the most vulnerable sectors of society, urging everyone to join hands in helping the countrymen, especially the poor, who have no one else to turn to but the government.
As the chairman of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, Go highlighted the importance of health in the overall development of the nation. He specifically emphasized the significance of supporting programs such as Malasakit Centers, Regional Specialty Centers, and Super Health Centers.
One of Go’s notable contributions is the Malasakit Centers program, which aims to provide convenient access to medical assistance programs offered by government agencies for indigent patients. The Malasakit Centers Act of 2019 (Republic Act 11463), principally authored and sponsored by Go, has led to the establishment of 159 operational centers nationwide, assisting over ten million Filipinos, according to the Department of Health (DoH).
Furthermore, Go played a significant role in the creation of the Regional Specialty Centers Act (Republic Act 11959). This act mandates the establishment of Regional Specialty Centers within DoH regional hospitals, highlighting the government’s commitment to strengthening the health infrastructure of the country.
Recently, Go co-sponsored Senate Bill 2451, also known as the “Ligtas Pinoy Centers Bill,” primarily sponsored by Sen. Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada. This bill, based on the Mandatory Evacuation Center bill previously filed by Go, aims to establish permanent and well-equipped evacuation centers nationwide.
Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go’s dedication to pro-poor programs and his efforts in advocating for the welfare of the marginalized sectors of society demonstrate his commitment to the betterment of the Filipino people. Through his initiatives, he continues to make a positive impact on the lives of millions, ensuring that no one is left behind in the nation’s pursuit of progress and development.
