SEN. Christopher “Bong” Go has called on the public to prioritize wearing masks in light of the increasing cases of Covid-19 and influenza-like illnesses in the country. As the chair of the Senate Health Committee, Go emphasized the importance of this preventive measure, particularly for high-risk individuals and those with comorbidities.

In a statement, Go highlighted the need for everyone, regardless of their physical health, to wear masks not only to protect themselves from Covid-19 but also to prevent the spread of other contagious respiratory diseases. He cited the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) as an example, where wearing masks has been made mandatory for everyone in its vicinity.

Reflecting on the past two years of dealing with the pandemic, Go emphasized the need to maintain the discipline of wearing masks as part of our daily routine. He likened it to a rehearsal of the past pandemic and stressed the importance of incorporating this practice into our health protocols.

Looking ahead, Go expressed his intention to call for a hearing to gather expert opinions, particularly from the Department of Health (DoH), in order to take necessary actions in case the number of Covid-19 cases continues to persist in the country. The hearing will address various issues, including the review of health protocols, the utilization rate of Covid-19 health facilities, the availability of vaccines, medicines, and protective equipment, as well as the state of preparedness of local governments nationwide.

Go also urged the public to prioritize their health by seeking medical consultation at Super Health Centers, rural health units, and public hospitals if they experience any health concerns. He emphasized the importance of primary medical care and early disease detection, which is why he is advocating for the establishment of more Super Health Centers across the country. In cases requiring hospitalization, Go assured the public that there are 159 Malasakit Centers in all regions of the country to assist with hospital bills.

Furthermore, Go has filed Senate Bill (SB) 195, which aims to create a Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and SB 196, which seeks to establish the Virology Science and Technology Institute of the Philippines. These proposed bills reflect Go’s commitment to strengthening the country’s response to future health crises and ensuring the availability of necessary resources and expertise.

In conclusion, Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go’s call for the public to wear masks serves as a reminder of the ongoing threat posed by Covid-19 and other respiratory diseases. By prioritizing the use of masks and adhering to health protocols, we can protect ourselves and our loved ones, especially those who are most vulnerable. Go’s efforts to gather expert opinions and propose legislation further demonstrate his commitment to safeguarding the health and well-being of the Filipino people.
