Alyssa Valdez and the Creamline Cool Smashers in the PVL 2024 All-Filipino Conference
Alyssa Valdez, the team captain of the Creamline Cool Smashers, is pleased with how her team is performing in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) 2024 All-Filipino Conference. Despite facing tough competition from other teams, the defending champions have managed to start the season with a 3-0 record. However, Valdez acknowledges the intensity of each game and the need for continuous improvement.
The Cool Smashers had a challenging start to the season, dropping an extended set against Farm Fresh and a fourth-set match against Akari. They finally found their rhythm and overpowered the Galeries Tower. Valdez recognizes the importance of learning from every game and making necessary adjustments.
“Our start this conference is very slow and steady, but I guess, we will take it. We learn from every game, and that is the most important thing,” Valdez said. “Every game, we need to improve, and there are many things to correct.”
Creamline had an impressive run in the previous conference, winning 18 straight games. However, Valdez understands that the season is still long and accepts the minor setbacks in their first three matches.
“We have to accept and acknowledge that this is how we played as the Cool Smashers. Eventually, and hopefully, we are going to improve every single game. Coach Sherwin (Meneses) has our backs, and we will listen to him,” Valdez expressed.
Valdez remains confident in the experience and leadership of the veterans on their team. With the help of high-caliber players like Tots Carlos, Michelle Gumabao, and Jema Galanza, Creamline aims to maintain their consistency in the upcoming games.
“Having veterans on our team is one of our advantages. We always joke about it, saying that we are one of the teams that have been in the PVL for a long time. Our team is mostly composed of veterans, so we consider that as an advantage for us,” Valdez explained.
The Cool Smashers will strive to extend their winning streak to four as they go up against the young Strong Group Athletics on Tuesday, March 12, at 4:00 p.m. The game will take place at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig.
