MANILA, Philippines: Get ready for colder nights and mornings ahead as the northeast monsoon, locally known as “amihan,” is set to intensify in the coming days, according to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

The current weather system is already affecting Batanes and Cagayan, where overcast skies with light rains will prevail, as reported by Pagasa weather specialist Benison Estareja.

Furthermore, the northeast monsoon is also bringing partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains over the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, and the rest of Cagayan Valley, added Estareja.

Pagasa’s data and analysis indicate a likelihood of the amihan intensifying in the coming days, Estareja stated.

Fortunately, there are no tropical cyclones or low pressure areas (LPAs) expected to form or enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) within the next three days, providing some relief from potential weather disturbances.

On the other hand, the easterlies, combined with localized thunderstorms, are currently affecting Metro Manila and the rest of the country. This will result in partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms within the next 24 hours.

As the northeast monsoon strengthens, it is important to take necessary precautions to stay warm and protected during the colder nights and mornings. Here are a few tips:

1. Dress in Layers

Layering your clothing helps trap heat and keeps you warm. Start with a thermal or insulating base layer, add a middle layer for extra warmth, and top it off with a waterproof and windproof outer layer.

2. Keep Your Home Insulated

Ensure that your home is well-insulated to retain heat. Check for any drafts around windows and doors and use weatherstripping or draft stoppers to seal them. Consider using thick curtains or blinds to further insulate your windows.

3. Stay Hydrated

Although it may not feel as hot as during the summer months, it is still important to stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water throughout the day to keep your body functioning properly.

4. Warm Drinks and Comfort Food

Indulge in warm drinks like tea, coffee, or hot chocolate to keep yourself cozy. Enjoying comfort food, such as soups and stews, can also help warm you up from the inside.

5. Take Care of Your Skin

The colder weather can be harsh on your skin, so make sure to moisturize regularly. Use a moisturizer that suits your skin type and apply it after showering or washing your face to lock in moisture.

By following these simple tips, you can stay comfortable and prepared as the northeast monsoon intensifies. Stay updated with the latest weather forecasts from Pagasa and take necessary precautions to ensure your well-being during this season.
